Heads up MWers!!! Bring your ID to CDA!!! Couldn't buy a beer with lunch without one. Then the rudest CM swoped in to snatch my hubbies beer because he saw me take a sip!!! Had to talk to the manager and finally get a new beer!
Wherever you buy alcohol they ALWAYS I.D you. That's why I haven't gotten my margarita ;( I never carry my I.D lol - Dreamer  276.1 #786 8-1-11 1:14PM Like  Reply

I wouldn't be upset. It's the law to ask for and see ID. We all know this. The CM wasn't rude, they didn't know if you were of age. Take it as a compliment, he thought you were younger than you really are. - DisneyFanZoe  1099.6 #74 8-1-11 1:21PM Like  Reply

This is like when an old man got carded at cvs and he didn't have an id. He must have been at least 65  - mozbaby  132.2 #2602 8-1-11 1:25PM Like  Reply
It IS the law in California and can you imagine what would happen if Disney were cited for serving to minors? They must be ultra vigilant. I'm sorry you felt you had a bad experience. I'm sure it was innocent on your part but I can't fault Disney for following the law. I have to say that in this day and age, I'm surprised any adult would be or could be without ID! - MoonWillow  375.7 #376 8-1-11 1:25PM Like  Reply
Umm hello!!! common sense! It's the law!!! - ERICKA  491.4 #249 8-1-11 1:25PM Like  Reply
I always carry my ID, you just never know what may happen that you may need it. The CM was just doing their job, noone wants to lose their job! Sometimes businesses have secret shoppers that make sure employees are doing their job, the CM was just watching their own rear. - reinakim  221.5 #1366 8-1-11 1:26PM Like  Reply
Wow they gave u a new beer? Maybe u should took a bigger sip then. I for one don't like when I don't get carded. I mean had to that long to actually get one legal might as well make it legal by showing ID. Oh yea I suppose u don't carry credit cards or write checks cause u need ID for those things. - Cricket  224.1 #1330 8-1-11 1:26PM Like  Reply

I'd like to chime in and say this is a great tip! In fact it's a good idea to have I.D. with you anywhere in California you attempt to buy alcohol, but I'm sure that just about everyone knows that. But for that 1% that doesn't, this is spot on.  - Zooter  1361.8 #60 8-1-11 1:35PM Like  Reply
I'm not complaining about asking for ID. I took that like the big girl I am. It's taking away hubbies beer!!! I was NOT expecting that! - Pwing  18.0 #5377 8-1-11 1:37PM Like  Reply

@pwing If u don't mind me asking are u over 35 or look over 35 I think that's the law to card if u look under 35. - mozbaby  132.2 #2602 8-1-11 1:41PM Like  Reply
Disney always cards. Partially to make sure you are not a minor but they do even if you look old enough. Reason being that if for whatever reason someone came into that restaurant and carded everyone and found that you had an alcoholic beverage and no ID that would be major trouble for everyone involved. Happened to me when we went to Napa rose. I went without my purse and had to go back to the hotel. Luckily we were staying at the grand that trip. It's frustrating but it's the law and it's meant to protect us. - DisneyBride°O°  370.4 #387 8-1-11 1:42PM Like  Reply

I've gotten carded for ordering a coke at the bar in DTD so not a big surprise that people get carded there (Disney property). I always card when people buy alcohol at my work, policy is if the person looks 30 and under, even if I know the person is over 21. - JediStitch  429.7 #297 8-1-11 2:04PM Like  Reply
As a former server I'm on the CMs side. You messed up. It's a no brainer especially at a place like DCA you most likely will be carded. - WeLoveDisneyland  413.1 #322 8-1-11 2:05PM Like  Reply

I'm surprised they even replaced the beer. Most places would say too bad you consumed alcohol after not being able to purchase it. - luvmygreenarmyman  171.6 #2014 8-1-11 2:45PM Like  Reply
I was buying something at the gift shop in the GCH last night and the CM sold a beer to a guest that didn't have ID (he had just come from the pool). I was surprised. He looked old enough but that doesn't mean he was. I teach high school and many of my students would pass for over 21 when I don't! I completely understand not selling alcohol without proper ID. The risk isn't worth it for the seller. - LilSterner  2686.2 #20 8-1-11 2:55PM Like  Reply
if you took a sip and they asked you for id and u didnt have one the CM could be fine if you were under age. So i understand why they would card you if you take a sip. When i worked at the grocery store if i carded you and you had no id than i cant legally sell to you. same thing in a restaurant. The CM could be fined and lose their job if they do not follow the alcohol policy. - shopalot926  50.7 #3793 8-1-11 2:57PM Like  Reply

Your pretty lucky he gave you another beer. If you were in the casino in Vegas with no ID you would have been 86. And if you took as sip from the beer you would have both been 86. And no beer or refund. With out legal ID you couldn't even be in the casino and I've had people 86 from there to protect my job. I need money! - vegasbrat  403.8 #333 8-1-11 3:01PM Like  Reply

Ok, I thought MW was a place for MW'ers to come TOGETHER. But wow. Some vicious attacks and some malicious comments. I can see both sides of the coin. Yeah, you should have ID before taking a sip. BUT.... You are at the happiest place on earth with the person you love. My wife and I share drinks all the time. It's not a thought process. It just happens. Grab a sip. We are human. The CM was in the right inbquestioning, but you don't confinscate a drink like that without verification. Obviously, as the manager replaced the drink using his better judgement. And for the person who said that this wouyld happen in Vegas, I live in Vegas and worked in the casino's for many years. This was common place. Lots of ladies don't carry purses or ID on the strip. Apples to appples. I am not siding against anyone here. Just a fellow MW wanted to sound off and perhaps a different approach could have been taken to voice back opinions. - GummyGST  31.5 #4386 8-1-11 3:45PM Like  Reply
If something ever happened to you and you ended up split from your party and unconceous on the ground with no id they would take you in as a jane doe...you should think about carrying your id - buzzgrrl  13.1 #6127 8-1-11 3:48PM Like  Reply

Technically, everyone should be carded, no matter how old they look. Carding some and not others based solely on appearance is discriminatory. And, since she had tried to buy a beer and had no I.D., the CM had verification, legally, to confiscate the beer. She could not prove she was of legal drinking age, regardless of appearance, and it is illegal to give or share alcoholic beverages or tobacco with someone that is underage. Not trying to be confrontational, just simply pointing out fact and the legality of the situation. My father is a lawyer, so I asked him about it. - DSMonson_CM  320.0 #539 8-1-11 3:58PM Like  Reply

I am still failing to see why responsible adults don't carry an ID....you should always have some sort of identification on you at all times. Ladies your ID fits in your bra. I'm glad they're strict about alcohol at the parks! And I'd like to take this moment to remind everyone to be kind to those in customer service, especially food service. And that the customer is usually wrong, considering the employee goes through extensive training on company policy and now all food service employees are required to be food handler certified, ensuring that proper food safety policy is followed. K, that's my rant. - ladylikesdisney  926.7 #96 8-1-11 9:05PM Like  Reply

In Alaska you have to have your ID if you're in the store with someone who is buying alcohol! My husband couldn't buy beer to take home because I came in with him without my ID. It isn't just DL or DCA! Laws everywhere have become more strict to stop under age drinking. The fines are very steep so you don't want to chance it as a business owner. - AKMouse  376.7 #371 8-1-11 9:56PM Like  Reply

I happen to be a CM that works the Beer Truck over in DCA. I card just about everyone that I think looks under the age of 30. If we card you and you don't have your ID, and I see you drink off someone elses beer, I would take it. It's the law, and part of my job as someone that serves beer at DCA. - CM_AndiMc  26.0 #4676 8-2-11 12:06AM Like  Reply
