so I dropped my new HTC vivid and shattered the lower part of my screen. att wants to charge me with my insurance on my phone $200. I found replacement screens online and I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced their own screen and if so how hard was it? thanks

your best bet would be finding a tech savvy friend to do it for you... i can do it, but its hard if you can't identify the individual components.. but if you still want to do it yourself, you MUST remember where each component went and each phone has a different manufacturing technique so each phone has a unique way to change the glass.. and you have to make sure that all you shattered was the glass and you didn't damage the digitizer (or the glass panel isn't stuck to the digitizer with adhesion)... and you have to be very patient and you can't force parts to come off or snap back on... and you also have to find the same same exact screen for your specific device.. ya so its hard and if you have no idea what you're doing, i would get some help :) - DonaldMissingPants296.2 #633 2-9-12 8:06PMLike Reply
There are a lot of stores, usually called cellular this or that, and you can find them in malls, near universities, etc... and as far as i have seen, no more than $50 ti replace the screen. If you can't find one near you, we can get you the address for the Huntington beach place as I know people who like him too, and you could mail it to them. . You might want to check online to see what your insurance deductible really is as I thought it was not more than $130.00 on any of the phones. Yiu can buy a new phone for $200...that is just silly! Check computer repair shops too. My friend owns a computer repair shop and does replace cell phone screens but I don't know how much he charges or which phones he works on. Thanks everyone...I guess after talking to repair shops and att. I refuse to pay $200 and my type of phone is pretty new so a lot of places don't have my screen yet.
