Are people really quiting by the dozens because of parking???
This thread is funny. Even though I have to leave an extra hour early, it doesn't matter... Why? Because I love my job, and I love working at Disneyland. The guests are the reason we have jobs! so if we have to park far away just to make it more convinent for our guests... It's okay in my eyes.and it's just 2 days. Not like it's the whole summer. Lol - TiffyMarie 302.2 #926 6-6-12 11:22AMLike(13)Reply
I am lucky enough to even have a job, for one, and two, its a Disneyland! How can I complain about the simple things like parking in a separate location for only 2 whole days!?!? I'll probably either park or get dropped off those days, but really? To complain about this? I believe that guests always come first - BaseballMickey 7854.1 #11 6-6-12 11:23AMLike(7)Reply
Should DL have enough parking for the (new) capacity? Shouldnt that have been included in the expansion planning of DCA? Making a park larger increases capacity and therefore the parking should too...idk? - gigibunny2 242.8 #1474 6-6-12 11:15AMLike(5)Reply
I take what I said back and apologize for my snide remarks. I really do love my job and guests really do come first. I had my first guest interaction in MONTHS a few days ago and the magic was refreshed for me. I do have other means of transportation and I wish the affected CMs the best of luck. - BCC 4783.2 #28 6-6-12 11:35AMLike(4)Reply
Seriously I love Disneyland although they are just as Greedy as the next and they will take and take and take. They will do whatever they want to employees. - Dsnygrl64 153.3 #2700 6-6-12 11:44AMLike(4)Reply
To my fellow CMs - stop bellyaching. You work for Disney. How awesome is that? You can handle a little temporary inconvenience so that additional guests can experience the Disney magic you have the PRIVILEGE to provide. And, given my 20 years here, I have never seen a company go MORE out of its way to minimize negative impacts on its cast members. So buck up and enjoy the magic. Capeesh? - Experiment818 1647.2 #106 6-6-12 11:44AMLike(4)Reply
I can see how the extra hour or so of commute can be difficult. For some people, that means an extra hour of paying a babysitter, rearranging children's summer schedules, etc. This is probably not an easy adjustment for everyone to make. - ima-pirateswife 822.9 #231 6-6-12 12:09PMLike(4)Reply
I am a Kindergarten teacher and earlier this week I got my notice that I will not be needed next year. I don't have a job for next school year. I work very hard and due to the CA budget I can't hold a job for longer than one school year. It really bums me out that people are quitting because of parking/travel issues. I don't get paid for the time on the road. I don't get paid for the time I spend after school in my room planning or the work i do at home on the weekends. I work more than just the hours I get paid for and I don't complain because I love my job and my students and I am lucky to have a job for now. I'm one a few of my Credential Program classmates that has been lucky to have a job. I work down the street from DL and I would park at the Honda Center if it meant I could keep my job. - Sandcar13 1408.2 #125 6-6-12 12:39PMLike(4)Reply
After reading this I may just take the bus in my costume (which ever that is). Yes, it's inconvenient but at least I have a job which took me a year to get and I'm thankful for that! - SUUZinOCretiredPLAID 1036.1 #185 6-6-12 11:04AMLike(2)Reply
Let me get this straight....Garden Walk & Convention center parking is not enough parking? Wow *hugs* CMs - UncoolBunny 71.0 #4202 6-6-12 11:18AMLike(2)Reply
When I lived in Long Beach and had an hour commute I think my employer would have laughed me out of my job if I asked to be paid for my time commuting, finding parking and walking a block or two to my building. I sympathize that it's frustrating and will create a hassle which can make things even harder on CMs that are having to work extra hard in the heat, crowds, etc.. But in this economy a job is a job and hopefully it is just for the couple of days mentioned and not a permanent change. Hopefully no one makes a rash choice out of anger to quit and then is hit with the reality of being jobless in this economy. - LisaMouse7531 410.1 #555 6-6-12 11:18AMLike(2)Reply
I wish parking and long commutes were the issues we had in our world. I would trade those issues, homelessness, unemployment to include the ability to quit, plus a vast of other "problems" for what we are going through now, and for the years to come. Just remember to hug somebody today, and tell them you love them. Life can change in a moment, and what seems so significant now (parking and commuting), will seem so frivilous. I apologize if this offends anybody ahead of time. I have a pair of shoes I'm willing to trade. - Sugarbuzz 245.9 #1428 6-6-12 1:00PMLike(2)Reply
I personally do not park in CM lots, I WALK to work all the time, although it is going to be tough for my fellow CM's to have to leave twice as early, they all have positive outlooks and just deal with it with a smile. I know my CM friends aren't really upset, more room for more guests to enjoy coming here and for all of us to spread the magic just a little more. 😊 - iPoca. 916.9 #204 6-6-12 12:15PMLike(1)Reply
I'm sorry, but I can't believe people are complaining of having to park further away for just a couple of days. Years ago I worked retail in a mall. The Entire Christmas season (nearly a couple of months!) we had to park a couple miles away and get bussed in. Walking wasn't an option, it was too far and not safe. You could be in our position, my husband got laid off in January. Applied to at least 150 jobs, had at least 40-50 interviews and we are still unemployed! We're about to look into cashing out our 401K to have money to continue to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. Yes, it's an inconvience but at least you have a paycheck and there are ways to work with it and it's not long term. I'm sorry to be so negative but it just gets to me a bit. - Autoalice 161.4 #2582 6-6-12 12:25PMLike(1)Reply
I have to park in the opposite end of the hospital from where I work. I look at it as extra exercise 😃 - KissDclown 1089.1 #174 6-6-12 12:44PMLike(1)Reply
Bottom line... All jobs have pros and cons. From what I've heard, DISNEY can be difficult to work for. You take the good with the bad. If it isn't a fit, then we make the decision to go on to something else. I don't think CMdlgurl should have to apologize. None of us know what the real reasons are. There's always 3 sides to a story... His side, her side and then there's the truth. People just have to realize nothing perfect. But you can choose to make the best of things! - NurseJennJillO 314.6 #850 6-6-12 12:52PMLike(1)Reply
I think this is a silly reason to quit your job! It looks like they are not asking a whole lot of the CM and offering them other options to get to work. I would view this as an opportunity to make new friends by setting up a car pool, get some exercise. I have made MUCH bigger scarfices for my job. Talk to me about quitting when you get a double case load of kids who spit, bite, kick, barf on you on purpose, throw 2 hour tantrums and you have to take a 10% paycut. It annoys me when people throw away a great opportunity for something so silly. - tiggertwin 332.9 #755 6-6-12 1:00PMLike(1)Reply
Eh. It's a hassle, but it's for the guests. And guests come first. If I have to go a little further than usual for 2 days out of the year to ensure that guests have a place to park, I will do it with a smile on my face and a "have a magical day!" :) - CMshelleybee 428.1 #526 6-6-12 1:09PMLike(1)Reply
According to the article, HR is disputing that fact. I'd be annoyed but it's only two days in June..... - LaneSparrow316 847.0 #221 6-6-12 10:40AMLikeReply
In college, I had a friend who worked at DL and commuted from Claremont. Clearly, she'd need a place to put the car when she got there, because public transit back then wasn't going to cut it, let alone now from that far out. Best of luck to the CMs dealing with all the changes. - ThatStarWarsKimberly 408.0 #563 6-6-12 11:21AMLikeReply
Uh, my old neighbor used to commute to work in downtown LA everyday for 3 hrs because of traffic, I don't hear him complaining. He leaves the house at 5 in the morning, I know because I may be up sometimes during that time and see him in his kitchen. - JediStitch 429.7 #522 6-6-12 11:40AMLikeReply
Most dreams come with at least one major sacrifice 😊 I've given up a lot to do the job I have. And I honestly love what I do. It's not a very secure job right now since I'm low on the totem pole, but I'll hopefully work my way into a secure position. That's just part of having a job, lol. Ultimately I know that there is no perfect job situation and you have to suck it up and pay your dues in order to chase your dreams. A temporary parking issue seems like a very silly reason for CMs to quit, but there are plenty of other people who will be grateful for those positions. - Spoonful_O_Sugar 619.9 #338 6-6-12 11:48AMLikeReply
It's just for 2 days people geez. Yes it's a drag but you have been taught that the guest comes first so why are CM's suddenly surprised? - CuppycakeMermaid 144.3 #2853 6-6-12 12:16PMLikeReply
