That's a fine lookin pup!! I hope you'll bring him to a meetup someday soon so we can meet him. Hound dogs are the best! - SuperCooper818.1 #117 6-6-12 4:45PMLike(1) Reply

I'm trying to figure out how a bringing a dog to Disneyland helps with anxiety and OCD... I have dogs, and in no way do they keep me from being stressed out... If I brought a dog to Disneyland it would have the opposite effect on me. π£ - BambooMike129.0 #2642 6-6-12 1:28PMLike Reply
Service dogs are especially trained to help calm their owners. It's a great relationship once you understand how it works. - ladylikesdisney 926.7 #96 6-6-12 1:30PM
We have used pets in juvenile corrections for those that suffer PTSD and anxiety, the petting and connection is proven to be pretty therapeutic. But I get what you are saying about your dog, my daughter's dog is the same way lol. Not a theapeutic dog! - madsdad 1209.6 #68 6-6-12 1:35PM
πThis! We trained our rescue dog to assist my daughter. They are taught to do such things as 'calming' ( lying across their owner, using their nose or paws to make a physical connection); creating a barrier between their owner and others if their owner has or is about to have an attack; carrying medical info/medication and allow others to touch them to get said items; barking for assistance; etc. Assistance dogs(pets) have far more duties than what we have all originally seen with the typical guide dog. - Gia 794.0 #122 6-6-12 1:37PM
It's because they are service dogs that are trained. They are trained specifically for this purpose. But if you took the ordinary dog (and my friends have lots of dogs that go wild!), it would be a different story. I love how dogs can be trained for this - it really helps people suffering from different conditions that would otherwise prevent them from enjoying what we all love - Disneyland. - LaTruce 1824.9 #44 6-6-12 1:38PM
Madsdad we have a bulldog named Jack Sparrow and he causes me anxiety! - FaithTrustPixiedust 22.7 #4925 6-6-12 1:39PM
I guess it does depend on the Dog... All I know is stress and heartache from having dogs, so I just can't see them as beneficial to coping with anything related to anxiety. I must have anti-service dogs. π - BambooMike 129.0 #2642 6-6-12 1:51PM
My "πThis" was directed to Lady's comment! And true...very few dogs can transition from being a pet to an assistance dog. Skullie has a few issues because of her being abused, but has come to know and recognize when she "must" works. Ringo, our "special" Great Dane couldn't do it - he needs his own assistance dog to calm him down! - Gia 794.0 #122 6-6-12 1:57PM
Can any dog be trained for that. I'm getting a puppy soon and was hoping to take him to get trained. - UncoolBunny 70.9 #3447 6-6-12 2:03PM
She is training to alert me when im picking my skin because i do not realize i am doing this. ive been on lots of medication to help me with this and my anxiety and ghetto dog is the only one that has made it possible for me to go into public without having panic attacks. since having her its gone from once a week to once a month and in my book i like that a lot better! she is my rock and savior. - tswift13_Baileys 13.5 #6042 6-6-12 2:17PM
That is awesome! Glad your able to get out and have some fun. - FaithTrustPixiedust 22.7 #4925 6-6-12 2:19PM
You call her ghetto dog or was that an autocorrect mistake. ππ she's adorable though! - ladylikesdisney 926.7 #96 6-6-12 2:19PM
Dang auto correct thanks for catching this. it was supposed to say getting this dog :P thank u again - tswift13_Baileys 13.5 #6042 6-6-12 2:30PM
Best auto correct of the day!!!!!!π - FaithTrustPixiedust 22.7 #4925 6-6-12 2:44PM
@uncool....there are places that train dogs, but usually the waiting list is very long. The best thing is to learn how to train them yourself. I went through training at the human society, read lots of material, and took our dog through Canine Good Citizen courses. I got a book from some website that lists what a dog has to do, and followed that. But keep in mind, not every dog is cut out for it! Enjoy your puppy whether they can be an assistance dog or a just a big cuddle bug! - Gia 794.0 #122 6-6-12 3:30PM
Thank you Gia. I just DMed you - UncoolBunny 70.9 #3447 6-6-12 4:39PM

Very cute dog. Is that blue strap a muzzle? - Dahulagirl 1053.8 #83 6-6-12 4:43PM
Dahulagirl...it's a "easy leader" . Its a collar that loops around the nose for extra control. Kind of like halter on a horse. - Gia 794.0 #122 6-6-12 5:23PM
Dahula, I bet you were wondering why a therapy bassett hound would need a muzzle! ππ - Spoonful_O_Sugar 439.0 #289 6-6-12 6:14PM
Thanks for the answer and yes I was wondering. π There are many therapy dogs that come to the treatment ctr and I never saw a strap like that π - Dahulagirl 1053.8 #83 6-6-12 9:38PM
I have really bad anxiety and OCD too been on several meds and none worked. U don't have a dog but my cat calms me down - bjgarcia123160.7 #2186 6-6-12 4:30PMLike Reply
I wanna cuddle with her. She's so cute!!!
I'm investigating having our Trudy trained for service dog status for GreenBean. She does such a good job without training. π - JenAnneWho300.7 #624 6-6-12 5:26PMLike Reply
