Any parents out there ever take their children by themselves? I have an almost one year old and a three year old. I would love to take them sometime during the week while my hubby is working but I'm a little nervous :) guess won't know until I try but wanted to see if I could get any feedback on here :) thanks!
If you have a stroller, i would walk instead of tram. I find it easier. - Zipitydoodahdad   269.0 #1047 7-31-12 10:27PM Like(6)  Reply
This...so true! It only takes nine minutes to walk from the parking structure to the park. - ohhhtoodles  365.2 #549 7-31-12 11:52PM
I've done it many times with my 3 year old daughter. I find it easier if I don't take a stroller to get on and off of the tram or bus. She gets tired of walking all day but she's a trooper and doesn't complain. She falls asleep as soon as we get to the car tho:) Having your husband around is helpful but I'm sure it's nothing you can't do on your own. I enjoy when it's just her and I. The mother and daughter bonding is great. - LittleStarSweeper   351.6 #584 8-1-12 12:50AM Like(2)  Reply
Welcome to MouseWait. What are you nervous about? - IMissDisney   1205.4 #113 7-31-12 9:04PM Like  Reply
You don't need your husband to go to the parks for a few hours with your children. There are tons of us single Moms that always have to take our kids solo. My sister is a widow with 4, and she does just fine, so I'm sure you will be too. I don't understand why you're nervous. Just go, and enjoy the time with your kids. - DisneyFanZoe   1106.9 #133 7-31-12 9:04PM Like  Reply
sorry about your sis. Some people just get nervous. I just jumped in and did it :) - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  4094.6 #23 7-31-12 9:08PM
Welcome. I always take mine alone. I only have one but he is quite rambunctious. I have many friends who also go with just themselves and their kid(s). - aidensmama   340.1 #613 7-31-12 9:06PM Like  Reply
I've done it a lot. It's not "easy" but it's fun. Just plan ahead. Factor in breaks for you and the kids. :) - JenAnneWho   300.7 #802 7-31-12 9:06PM Like  Reply
often there are Mini-MeetUps for parents on MW and their Mini MWers. Anyone is welcome, but if ya don't have a kid, you may end up babysitting 😂😂😂. - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint   4094.6 #23 7-31-12 9:07PM Like  Reply
also, you just have to take things slower. head out after the morning nap( if they are nappers or have them nap in the car.) go for 2 hours and leave. biggest probs seem to come when they are tired or hungry, so it's best to stay 2 steps ahead by bringing snacks and lotsa water and SPF. enjoy - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  4094.6 #23 7-31-12 9:10PM
If you're an AP holder..I say YES take them. Remember if you are struggling or having a hard time, you can always leave. My advice is come to a mini meetup, we really help each other with our minis. It helps when u have others helping. I only have one and it was never too hard but I can promise you you'll enjoy it even if it's just 3 hours there - MarshaMouse   4071.1 #24 7-31-12 9:07PM Like  Reply
Snacks snacks snacks and plenty of areas just to let them play - MarshaMouse  4071.1 #24 7-31-12 9:08PM
I love snacks - HanLostLeia  1096.2 #134 7-31-12 9:49PM
I don't have kids of my own, but I always take my neices and nephews by myself...alway have a great time. I'm sure you will too! Good luck! - minnieluv   108.8 #3252 7-31-12 9:08PM Like  Reply
Yes! Last month we did ten hours of park hopping (myself with my 6 and 2 year old) when my husband went underway for the first time. We had a great visit, and I handled it fine! It was actually extra special to me being just the three of us on the rides/attractions. Loved it! - rrrumpunch   269.9 #1035 7-31-12 9:22PM Like  Reply
I take my two and a half year old daughter all the time by myself. - ScooterMike   1961.4 #61 7-31-12 9:22PM Like  Reply
I have a hubby who doesn't quite get the magic. I'm always going with just my kids (age 11 & 4). The older one does a lot of solo riding cause the younger one isn't a thrill junky. - GoofyMom77   480.9 #378 7-31-12 9:25PM Like  Reply
I'll add that we are to far for day trips. So its 3-4 days of just us. - GoofyMom77  480.9 #378 7-31-12 9:28PM
Us too. We tackle a hotel, too. - MeridasHair  346.5 #599 8-1-12 12:32AM
Be prepared. I'm not a mom but I have a lot of experience taking care of kids. I saw a new mom with her baby struggling to get on the tram. She underestimated getting the diaper bag and baby on the tram while trying to fold the stroller. A CM came to help her and I ended up holding the baby for her. I'm sure that is not how she imagined things going down when she planned her day. Just be sure you take what you need, but not too much extra and give yourself plenty of time. - Mimmy   1442.3 #89 7-31-12 9:28PM Like  Reply
This ⬆ is what worries me. I have to take a double stroller and I don't think I could hold a one year old, keep my eye on the 4 year old, collapse the ginormous stroller and carry it and manage a diaper bag at the same time. I have taken my 4 year old alone with just an umbrella stroller and it was super fun. - tballzz  548.2 #317 7-31-12 9:35PM
Get in line at the front of the tram where you don't have to fold your stroller. A CM will help you load it into the tram. :) - Mimmy  1442.3 #89 7-31-12 9:38PM
Mimmy you just blew my mind. Great advice! This is a game changer. - tballzz  548.2 #317 7-31-12 9:43PM
Thank you. 😄 - tballzz  548.2 #317 7-31-12 9:44PM
You're welcome! You might have to wait a little longer if there are wheelchairs or strollers ahead, but that's the best place if you've got your hands full. 😃 - Mimmy  1442.3 #89 7-31-12 9:49PM
Or just park at Mickey and friends and walk. It's really not that far plus you'll be walking around the park all day, what's a little more? :) I take my 4 year old solo all the time and I've been doing it since she was 2. It was a bit harder at first but I've learned a few tricks to make it easier like instead of a purse and/or diaper bag I bring a small backpack that way my hands were always free to hold my daughter. Bring snacks as well as special treats to keep them entertained in line. Buying popcorn is great for lines cause u get a lot and they eat slowly. Now I really enjoy our mommy daughter days :) - Nicole  380.2 #515 7-31-12 10:45PM
The last car on the tram also has a spot where you do not have to collapse your stroller. The wait is usually shorter at hte back. - Autoalice  157.6 #2454 7-31-12 11:49PM
My experience is it is so wonderful to spend time with the kids. CM's are great. I remember once I waited for 20mins for pirates and they let me change him and right to the front of the line. Plus its DL you can relax enjoy and look at all the beauty :-) - Disneyfreak111   462.1 #400 7-31-12 9:45PM Like  Reply
They are awesome at understanding kids and bathroom breaks - MarshaMouse  4071.1 #24 7-31-12 9:48PM
I go with my 3 year old often we enjoy whatever he wants to ride and he usually tells me when he wants to go home, he knows what he wants to ride on before we get there so it's like his day to be the boss without his older brother .... It's fun being told what to do next by your little one ... - TINO   379.2 #517 7-31-12 9:49PM Like  Reply
I love taking my 3 1/2 yr old son. We go almost every sat by ourselves. I love the special time with him. Just pack snacks and take your time. I have gone several times with him and just saw the parade and walked around. 😃 - DSNYCheeks3   863.0 #177 7-31-12 9:54PM Like  Reply
I'm a single mom with a 13 year old and 3 year old. We go at least once a month and have fun every time. When my older son was little, I used to take him by myself every couple of weeks. We usually get there mid-afternoon and stay til 10 or 11. Its our happy place!! - nerdgirl   82.4 #3635 7-31-12 10:09PM Like  Reply
This story reminds me of when I was a single mom with my older daughter. We would stay at the Anahiem Hilton (for free) because I worked for them and would go to DL just her and I. It was some of my favorite memories ever!! - ohhhtoodles  365.2 #549 7-31-12 11:54PM
Park in the Toy story parking lot. It is much easier getting off the bus than the tram with kids, IMO. I go with my 2 1/2 year old by myself all the time. I was nervous at first too, but as my son got used to the park, it gets easier! My friend takes her 2 1/2 y/o and 1 year old all the time. Double stroller works wonders. Plus there seems to always be someone who will help if you need it! - CaTeacher   276.9 #960 7-31-12 11:10PM Like  Reply
Yes use toy story parking lot. I go by myself with my 14 month old and I take my big stroller too. When it's time to board the shuttle just ask one of the many cast members that are greeting you when u board. They will help you with the stroller. Once you get off its easier to take it out on you own but the bus driver always asks me if I need help. I'm also going on the 20th with my daughter by ourselves again cuz the hubby is working. Then on the 23rd we all go together yay!!!! - annjay07  161.2 #2404 7-31-12 11:24PM
I have to take all three of mine by myself everytime. I am a single parent. It isn't as hard as it seems. We had no choice but to go alone for the past 5 years. - MeridasHair   346.5 #599 8-1-12 12:28AM Like  Reply
I take my 6 and 5 year old kids a couple times a month by myself. I bring an umbrella stroller for the 5 year old and always bring a backpack so my hands are free. It was hard when I first started taking them by myself but it has gotten easier each time. - arielchica   256.2 #1160 8-1-12 12:37AM Like  Reply
I must be the only one that understands why you'd be nervous.  A lot of posters have only one child, or their kids are older.  A baby and a 3 year old would be a handful, but I would give it a try.  Maybe take it slow and only plan on a couple of hours on the first trip.  I think with planning (love the tip on walking from the parking structure) you'd have a great time...and there's always nice people to lend a hand if you need one!  Good luck! - msdizmaui   626.9 #271 8-1-12 2:16AM Like  Reply
I have done it with a 3 year old and a 9 year old. We took it slow and leisurely. It would be difficult to go solo with 2 little ones but I would do it in a minute. Well, if I lived closer. Just plan on a nice slow day. - LaPearleNoir   1193.4 #115 8-1-12 6:12AM Like  Reply
I go with my 3 y/o all the time. Walk instead out riding the tram. Take plenty of snacks. Potty breaks before long lines. Just enjoy yourself. If you want to be sociable, let MWers know when you are going and you can hit a meet up. - Squirtortue   311.1 #742 8-1-12 6:31AM Like  Reply
