Hi Lindsay, glad you introduced yourself. Welcome to Chub 33. I hope you find lots of support and encouragement here. I totally get where your coming from. My husband use to travel a lot as well. It was easier to eat out or pick up something than cook for one. Try planning ahead. Maybe your weak in the moment, but if you create individual healthy meals it'll be easier. Hi Linzee! Welcome to Chub 33 :) It's always easier to eat poorly when you're alone, isn't it? Planning is key: make sure your fridge always has healthy foods in it! A lot of people have found Weight Watchers online to be very helpful, but if you don't want to spend the money, I have found Hungry Girl to be great, as Mrs. Mouse mentioned. Also, Iowa Girl Eats is a great website--she has all kinds of healthy twists on yummy foods. I'm actually going to try her chicken salad recipe for dinner tonight. Also, magazine websites like Self, Shape, and Women's Health have a TON of great nutrition information and recipes for healthy yet yummy food. I also found French Women Don't get Fat by Mireille Guilano to be a great resource. I think the biggest tip I can offer is to not sacrifice taste: don't deprive yourself of the flavors you love, but rather incorporate them into lighter dishes so that you feel happy and satisfied. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  435.8 #283 8-14-12 1:54PM Like  Reply

Welcome, Linzee! Looks like you've already gotten some great tips from the group. I agree that planning ahead is key when you are alone. Also keep the junk out of the house so it isn't there to temp you, and keep plenty your favorite healthy snacks available. Learn the art of replacing your favorite snacks with a healthier version. For example, I love ice cream...I found that cutting up a few over-ripe bananas and freezing them, then putting them in the food processor until they are creamy tastes just like ice cream. Wow, thank you all for tips and warm welcome!! It feels so nice to be able to be open about the need to lose weight. I really need to lose more but my doctor gave me that goal for now. I haven't been very open to those around me about my weight struggle, it pretty much stinks to say the reason I can't have this surgery is that I weigh too much!! Ugh. My husband is finally on board and is realizing that I need support at home. Last weekend we went to Mcdonalds (I know, bad!) I wanted a non fat vanilla cone, he said 'oh lets get some fries', I said, 'no I can't have those'...well, he ordered them and started to eat them in the car right in front of me. I didn't know whether to slug him or cry, I love those dang fries. I thanked him for being so supportive and then he realized what he had done and felt awful. His job is physical so he doesn't see the problem with eating fatty foods, he works them off easily. I don't. I did swim today and hopefully this weekend we can get the hand me down home gym built in the garage and I can put it to use. I look forward to getting to know you all. Hi and welcome to the club!..I have had luck in the past with spark people.com ..It's a free site with tons of great free info..I love to cook and have found like pirate queen having things preped in advanced really helps..my Fav this summer are smoothies.. I buy the giant spinach and carrots from Costco.. Steam the spinach put in individual bags in the freezer and then steam some carrots as needed..
