Hi all! I thought I'd say hello instead of lurking. My name is Lindsay and my weight loss goal is 10-15lbs for now so I can have a much needed surgery. I'm having a hard time, my husband travels for work and I eat terribly when he is gone. If you have any great recipe sites/tips I would love to know. Food is what I struggle with.
Hi Lindsay, glad you introduced yourself. Welcome to Chub 33. I hope you find lots of support and encouragement here. I totally get where your coming from. My husband use to travel a lot as well. It was easier to eat out or pick up something than cook for one. Try planning ahead. Maybe your weak in the moment, but if you create individual healthy meals it'll be easier. If you haven't tried/read/watched, some of us like Hungry Girl. Check it out. Hope this helps. - Mrs.mouse   515.8 #346 8-14-12 10:03AM Like  Reply
Hi Linzee! Welcome to Chub 33 :) It's always easier to eat poorly when you're alone, isn't it? Planning is key: make sure your fridge always has healthy foods in it! A lot of people have found Weight Watchers online to be very helpful, but if you don't want to spend the money, I have found Hungry Girl to be great, as Mrs. Mouse mentioned. Also, Iowa Girl Eats is a great website--she has all kinds of healthy twists on yummy foods. I'm actually going to try her chicken salad recipe for dinner tonight. Also, magazine websites like Self, Shape, and Women's Health have a TON of great nutrition information and recipes for healthy yet yummy food. I also found French Women Don't get Fat by Mireille Guilano to be a great resource. I think the biggest tip I can offer is to not sacrifice taste: don't deprive yourself of the flavors you love, but rather incorporate them into lighter dishes so that you feel happy and satisfied. - Spoonful_O_Sugar   529.4 #332 8-14-12 1:54PM Like  Reply
Hi Linzee, welcome to Chub 33! I'm glad you decided to come out from lurking and join us. This is a wonderfully supportive group. I love Hungry Girl too. I don't really cook from recipes very much but I like to read them and get ideas. - vernswifevickie   399.4 #481 8-14-12 2:53PM Like  Reply
Welcome, Linzee! Looks like you've already gotten some great tips from the group. I agree that planning ahead is key when you are alone. Also keep the junk out of the house so it isn't there to temp you, and keep plenty your favorite healthy snacks available. Learn the art of replacing your favorite snacks with a healthier version. For example, I love ice cream...I found that cutting up a few over-ripe bananas and freezing them, then putting them in the food processor until they are creamy tastes just like ice cream. (I even add a tbsp of almond butter for a nutty flavor). Good luck and welcome to Chub33! - D55CR   249.9 #1220 8-14-12 4:21PM Like  Reply
Wow, thank you all for tips and warm welcome!! It feels so nice to be able to be open about the need to lose weight. I really need to lose more but my doctor gave me that goal for now. I haven't been very open to those around me about my weight struggle, it pretty much stinks to say the reason I can't have this surgery is that I weigh too much!! Ugh. My husband is finally on board and is realizing that I need support at home. Last weekend we went to Mcdonalds (I know, bad!) I wanted a non fat vanilla cone, he said 'oh lets get some fries', I said, 'no I can't have those'...well, he ordered them and started to eat them in the car right in front of me. I didn't know whether to slug him or cry, I love those dang fries. I thanked him for being so supportive and then he realized what he had done and felt awful. His job is physical so he doesn't see the problem with eating fatty foods, he works them off easily. I don't. I did swim today and hopefully this weekend we can get the hand me down home gym built in the garage and I can put it to use. I look forward to getting to know you all. Thanks again :) *off to go check out Skinny Girl* - Linzee   869.2 #173 8-14-12 5:09PM Like  Reply
Oh goodness I know the feeling! I am married to the junk food king! I am slowly learning to find things I like at most of the fast food places but some days it's so hard not to crumble in the face of temptation! - vernswifevickie  399.4 #481 8-15-12 6:58AM
Welcome! Good luck with your weight loss journey!! I plan my meals 2 weeks in advance and I do not buy any extra food at the grocery store so I don't snack. It was hard in the beginning but now it's habit. - PirateQueenBriezy   298.1 #810 8-14-12 6:36PM Like  Reply
Oh wow--you are very organized! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  529.4 #332 8-15-12 6:44AM
Ah yes well thank you, but the only reason I do this is because 1) I strongly dislike all kinds of shopping (except DL shopping of course!) and 2) I haven't been able to get a job since graduating from nursing school so I have nothing better to do than indulge my OCD tendencies. - PirateQueenBriezy  298.1 #810 8-15-12 8:57AM

My husband even likes the spinach/fruit smoothies--we have them every morning now! 😊 I've been adding a little Greek yogurt for a protein boost (I don't like the taste of protein powders, 😖 lol). - Spoonful_O_Sugar  529.4 #332 8-15-12 7:29PM

Welcome! I pin lots of ideas on Pinterest! My husband seriously shops through my boards when deciding what he's going to make. - Squirtortue   311.1 #737 8-20-12 8:17AM Like  Reply
So funny you say that, pinterest is where I have found most of my healthier dinners. Last night I made a baked chicken fajita dish, it was delish. I also like all of the inspirational weight loss sayings people pin, they help motivate. I just need to stay away from all of the sweet treat, I moved them to their own board so I won't be tempted :) - Linzee  869.2 #173 8-20-12 8:37AM
