Good morning! This day in Disney history, Dec. 6th, 1915. Delmer J. Yoakum - an artist, oil & watercolor painter, designer, serigrapher & motion picture studio scenic artist - is born in St. Joseph, Missouri. He will go on to paint the Grand Canyon & Primeval World Diorama scenery (viewable from the train of Disneyland Railroad, pictured below, he's on the left) portions of Pirates of the Caribbean, It's a Small World & the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. For more about Delmer http://is.gd/NDqtyw ✨Also on this day in 1922 the Laugh-O-Gram combination live-action & animated short "Tommy Tuckers Tooth", written & co-animated by Walt Disney is released. It is made for a local Kansas City dentist, Dr. Thomas B. McCrum. The $500 Walt will earn from this short will enable him to begin work on his Alice Comedies. The diorama, which includes taxidermic animals (the only ones in the park) in lifelike poses, is the longest in the world. Painted on a single piece of seamless canvas and representing the view from the canyon's south rim, the rear of the diorama measures 306 feet (93 m) long, 34 feet (10 m) high and is covered with 300 gallons (1,100 L) of paint in 14 colors.source from wikipedia.it was also a reason the train cars that passengers were changed to the ones that face right to enjoy the views better although disney keep one of the original which is the one that faces foward. - pikarich   2597.3 #37 12-6-12 10:51AM Like  Reply
