^yes a humidifier is great especially for the croup or any congestion from illness. I prefer the cold mist ones just to be on the safe side. - aidensmama  340.1 #624 12-17-12 10:23PM
they also have the vicks humidifier that works good too. - ElSuperRaton   4466.2 #20 12-17-12 10:12PM Like  Reply
My little guy is just getting over being sick. Vicks, cool mist humidifier, and Hylands cough and cold. It's homeopathic and seemed to work great for Hunter. - MrsDisneyMommy29   280.3 #944 12-17-12 10:13PM Like  Reply
Coughs get worse as they lay down. Elevate their lil heads and a lil cough medicine. We are experiencing Night #2 with this - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint   4459.8 #21 12-17-12 10:14PM Like  Reply
Oh sorry- saw you said home remedies - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  4459.8 #21 12-17-12 10:15PM
My little one is prone to coughing. Elevating his head at night has worked the best. My kids are older, but my Indonesian mother-in-law would put Vicks on their backs and then cut a fresh ginger root and rub it over their backs. It does loosen the congestion. I never knew about the feet. I will have to try that too! - RadiatorSprings4Ever  907.6 #171 12-17-12 11:48PM
Okay, this will sound weird, but it REALLY works. Cover the soles of their feet in Vicks vapor rub and then put a few layers of socks over them. - DisneyDavidEMT   1603.0 #83 12-17-12 10:18PM Like  Reply
Didn't see the other comments about the feet trick, so I will just say...they are all correct!! - DisneyDavidEMT  1603.0 #83 12-17-12 10:19PM
No great that you commented cuz cuz I totally forgot to add to put socks after to keep the warmth! - stevesdisneyprincess  110.3 #3246 12-17-12 10:21PM
Funny how we are all suggesting this! LOL - mrscttlemstr  286.5 #899 12-17-12 10:23PM
And a couple of layers so the Vicks doesn't seep through and make a mess on the sheets - DisneyDavidEMT  1603.0 #83 12-17-12 10:23PM
A lot of people do not know this but if you rub Vick vapor rub on the bottom of their feet it helps with coughing. Put socks on after you put the rub on. I know it sounds crazy, but it helps! - mrscttlemstr   286.5 #899 12-17-12 10:19PM Like  Reply
Sounds crazy but works wonders - stevesdisneyprincess  110.3 #3246 12-17-12 10:32PM

Elevate their head by putting a pillow under the mattress or some rolled up towels - MaidMiriam   305.1 #789 12-17-12 11:58PM Like  Reply
I've had problems with asthma/bronchitis since I was a baby. The humidifier helps the coughing. Also, sometimes my mom used to boil water and pour it into a huge bowl. I would drape a towel over my head and around the bowl to trap the steam and breathe in deeply. I still do this when I get a chest cold--it's really soothing. - Spoonful_O_Sugar   550.2 #322 12-18-12 1:01AM Like  Reply
