Disney to launch RFID bracelets. This has been something in the works for 3 years. It will finally launch this spring. What this bracket will have is all of your info on it. You want to buy a drink? Just wave your bracelet. "Oh Mr. Smith, I see your favorite ride is the Matterhorn. It's only a 10 minute wait" The cast members will know this information; your favorite rides and characters. Seems kinda like big brother to me but I guess you don't have to share all of that info. You can also open the hotel doors with the bracelets. These RFIDs are suppose to enhance your Disney going experience. You will even be able to customize things from home. I learned of this from and inside source. I tried to get as much info as I could. Some of you I'm sure know about this and others will not. Can't wait to see these in action!
I certainly don't need a CM saying "my I see you enjoy The Cove Bar quite a bit" ;) - ShariRenee   3852.3 #22 1-9-13 8:10PM Like(7)  Reply
Oh now that sounds creepy. - Lelundrial  440.2 #418 1-9-13 8:15PM
It's the technological version of cheers. Where everybody knows your name. - Waites4DodgerEars  965.4 #145 1-9-13 8:20PM
I bet MouseWait launches the ability to Search lounge posts pretty soon too! - NotSoDapperDan   323.2 #673 1-9-13 8:12PM Like(3)  Reply
that just sounds so futuristic! - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  3397.7 #26 1-9-13 10:29PM
Why don't they just implant us with a chip they can scan like my dog has. I really don't like this idea. - DisneyGrandma   626.5 #261 1-9-13 8:47PM Like(3)  Reply
Fastpasses gone by 10 AM, no room in the resturants, premiums for everything. Ok if you are going just to sit on the MW porch and drink coffee. Other than that it will be a pain. - connielu  686.3 #222 1-9-13 8:51PM
They plan to launch in WDW first. DL is a ways off. i would love it if it comes to DL. I wont have to fumble for my pass all the time. Specially since i drop everything when i have to be in the scooter. Or when I wear loves I wont have to take them off to get my card out of my wallet - ImAlwaysCrazy   671.7 #232 1-9-13 7:56PM Like(2)  Reply
They are a little weird to me. Not sure I like the idea of being able to pay for things with them. And I definitely don't like having to schedule your fastpass ahead of time. It will be interesting to see how they work--seems like an awfully expensive system to implement. - Spoonful_O_Sugar   507.6 #343 1-9-13 8:04PM Like(1)  Reply
I agree! Planning what Fastpass times you will have seems like too much work. People already have to plan dining reservations and such. I guess we will see how it works out! - Cinderella12  45.5 #97 1-9-13 8:12PM
I don't like that part either. At WDW, it is nice that your room key has your ticket as well. However, I don't want it linking up to my credit account. You have no choice on the cruise. - Lelundrial  440.2 #418 1-9-13 8:14PM
Maybe they'll let you choose whether or not you want to link your credit card to the bracelet? Personally, I'd rather keep the two separate, just in case. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.6 #343 1-9-13 8:17PM

I would venture to say that much of this information is already gathered at one point or another. I mean.. through my AP purchases, Disney knows I love to buy pins, clothes and Vinylmations as much as Carnival knows I love the Piano Bar when I use my Sign and Sail Card. Disney consistently requests survey participation. People offer information of birthdays and celebrations when they wear the pins. I am making a n opinionated guess that many purchases are made with credit cards, debit cards are gift cards which in one way or another track back to demographics. This anticipated technology, in my opinion, seems to bring all of that together and then enhances the data potential. I'm excited about it. I am totally ok with giving up some of my rights to privacy to Disney and it's good that others can opt out. - MrsMears   214.6 #1650 1-9-13 9:55PM Like(1)  Reply
This is not a good thing for AP holders! It will make last minute, spur of the moment trips unbearable. - connielu   686.3 #222 1-9-13 7:58PM Like  Reply
APholder line!!! lol jk - ImAlwaysCrazy  671.7 #232 1-9-13 8:00PM
Heard all of this on the news yesterday so not sure how much an inside source your inside source is. Also heard they are/were testing it out first with no definate implement date set yet. - Donaldfan_532   229.9 #1453 1-9-13 8:00PM Like  Reply
Its called NextGen. Being implemented in WDW this winter TDA is looking to start in 2014 I think. - connielu  686.3 #222 1-9-13 8:24PM
Too much like big brother for me....😁 - JenInWonderland   1025.6 #137 1-9-13 8:06PM Like  Reply
Me too. We have a store in the mall here that reminds me of this...you'll walk in wearing jeans and while you're looking at clothes, a salesgirl will say "I see that you're wearing dark denim jeans. They look fabulous on you. You know what goes great with those? T-shirts. I've started a room for you and I put 4 different styles of t-shirts in there for you to try on. And I added 3 more pairs of dark denim jeans." Sooo annoying and fake! 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.6 #343 1-9-13 8:13PM
That's more than a little creepy to me, Spoonful. - MeridaFan  3189.2 #28 1-9-13 8:16PM
I quit going in there, even though they do have really cute clothes, lol. Wayyyyy too pushy and fake!! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.6 #343 1-9-13 8:18PM
I don't know how I feel about this but it would be nice to not have to dig through my diaper bag for my wallet and then pull out my passes to get in just to put it all back again. It's a huge hassel. Did they say how much it costs? - Queenof2princesses   259.5 #1111 1-9-13 8:23PM Like  Reply
It will be part of vacation planning mostly. Not a good thing for APs as I stated above - connielu  686.3 #222 1-9-13 8:28PM
I didn't know it was on the news and I didn't see it. Dave posted something in Oct about it too (I searched after my post) It is suppose to launch at all of the parks at the same time, according to this person. Everyone has valid points to this topic regarding pros and cons to this device - wickedale   300.0 #787 1-9-13 8:29PM Like  Reply
I am on the fence about these. They seem like they'll be very helpful and I love the idea of waving my wrist to buy something, but at the same time I see many problems. System crashes, germs, losing the bracelet, information being stolen, etc. I'll just leave my faith in Disney and hope they've conquered the issues with all the problems we've thought of :) - KylaShea   625.9 #262 1-9-13 8:43PM Like  Reply
Last I heard, there was still a lot of uncertainty. - BCC  4775.9 #16 1-9-13 9:05PM
I love the idea of the bracelet. But I could go without the being able to buy something part. i understand the charging it to your room thing. but if used for APs they should have an opt out for purchases. - ImAlwaysCrazy  671.7 #232 1-9-13 9:09PM
but that is why they are testing in wdw first. they did it with the print scanners and those seem to not be coming to cali because of problems. - ImAlwaysCrazy  671.7 #232 1-9-13 9:10PM
im not to keen on the idea, wonder if enough concerns are voiced if this would change.keep the experience simple - pikarich   2382.6 #44 1-9-13 9:30PM Like  Reply
Sounds cool if this means I can load up my AP with a fastpass for RSR and Space Mountain for everyday the year. - jediblue   1623.7 #75 1-9-13 9:46PM Like  Reply
I doubt the concerns would be heard. This has been 3 years in the making and it's about to roll out. I read an article it cost a pretty to roll out too. Side note... There will be a $50 cap on the bracket. And if you lose it a CM can deactivate it, so the money is not spent - wickedale   300.0 #787 1-9-13 9:47PM Like  Reply
these rfid chips are being put into everything and really they dont need to know about us or how to track us to me this is a big privacy issue thats needs to be addressed. i honestly hope this doesnt go through. its kind of coinsidental they taking after the governments program and doing it on a test phase just like the government is doing to track children in schools they make it manditory in the student identification cards - sctoaonk75   274.1 #971 1-9-13 10:21PM Like  Reply
