Just signed my husband and I up for the Disneyland 10K in August! And I'm kinda freaking out!! I'm so excited about it, but I haven't done a run since my teens! 😂 I guess it's time to get training (is that enough time?😳) and figure out my shin splint prone legs.😁 If I can do this well, I'm going to be over the moon, I really need to do this! Thank you to everyone who posted this weekend, it inspired me to get moving more with a race goal!! 🎉😃 (still a little freaked out though, haha)
Oh can you register without paying? I wanna do the 10k too. - madsdad   1868.1 #81 1-21-13 2:54PM Like  Reply
You've taken the first step! 4 months ago I started running (which I hadn't done in 20 years). Trust me if you set a training plan and keep to it you'll do great! Ease into it and remember walking is great training too. Doing both the 5k and half this weekend I saw people of all ages and abilities. I'm looking forward to hearing about you're progress! - NikkiMickey   1685.7 #92 1-21-13 2:57PM Like  Reply
Good for you to get signed up!! I had bad shin splints until I had shoes with better arch support...head to a running store to get your feet evaluated and buy some good shoes. - Linzee   1125.0 #150 1-21-13 3:04PM Like  Reply
Thank you! I'll have to do this soon! 😊 - Sweet_Irish_Cream  4399.5 #27 1-21-13 4:58PM
Yes, go to a specialty store and get fitted for the right kind of shoe and tell them about your shin splints--you might even consider custom insoles. Be sure you run the race in the shoes you've trained in. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  601.0 #319 1-21-13 5:05PM
Way to go SIC! I hear ya on the shin splints! I wear NikeAirMax, and find that it really helps. When I run on the treadmill I NEVER get them. Shin splints stink!!!! We are going to sign up for the 10K too, maybe we will see you there! - 7mouskedoodles   371.2 #578 1-21-13 3:14PM Like  Reply
Awesome! Thanks so much!! I'll look into those! 😊 - Sweet_Irish_Cream  4399.5 #27 1-21-13 5:02PM
I don't know thing one about running training, but I am sure you will do well. You're very determined, which is a great deal of what it will take. Please keep us up to date on how you're doing. You have more guts than I do. - IMissDisney   1205.7 #136 1-21-13 3:19PM Like  Reply
I signed my husband and myself up for the 10k in August too! I am not a runner at all, but I am going to do my best. Good luck! - goofymom2boys   1467.5 #104 1-21-13 3:49PM Like  Reply
Run a minute, walk a minute is a good starting point - CaptnSparrow   671.2 #281 1-21-13 5:06PM Like  Reply
You have plenty of time to train. The hardest part is making the commitment to do it. Good for you and I know you will accomplish what you've set your mind to do. - LilSterner   5066.1 #21 1-21-13 5:08PM Like  Reply
I'm going to have to do this as well. - RadioMaverick   1132.7 #148 1-21-13 5:12PM Like  Reply
You have six months that is more than enough. I have a great training program for all distances which is a program I received from the training group of LAPD, I can find it, either send it to you, or, post it on my mousetopia, I am still trying to post some other stuff there so it might take me a day or two! It helped me with distances of 3 to 9 miles but goes up to 26 miles, and it really helps keep you interested in training. I used to train people for some races and the main thing is to keep the training fun, interesting, do-able for your level, and go to go out even when you can find the excuse not too!! I hope you all do great, I am trying to find out if I am allowed to at least walk it if not run, I want to do these so bad!! - secretagentangel   2197.9 #64 1-21-13 5:40PM Like  Reply
plus don't we still have that club on here for losing weight, people could post their training joys and hardships there to help others stay motivated too! - secretagentangel  2197.9 #64 1-21-13 5:42PM
How exciting!! I have no advice as I've never run a race of any kind lol...but I know you'll do awesome!! 😊 - MinnieMousewife   892.2 #189 1-21-13 5:41PM Like  Reply
I did the half this weekend with little training and finished( beat the bus!!!). Even though my body hates me today, I think I'll do it again with training next year. - Ohana   215.9 #1730 1-21-13 5:55PM Like  Reply
