Today's goal is a big one for me. It's my enemy. No food after dinner. I am allowed my night smoothie. No late night snacking. I am so enjoying hearing others share their goals. Thanks!

So...the good news is that nothing is broken. It's all bruising and soft tissue injury. He said its similar to the sprain that happens when you twist and roll your ankle...except its my toe. They buddy taped it and gave me a boot to wear. He said no running at all for at least a week and then I can MAYBE start back at about 10% of what I usually do and work up from there. Happy Tuesday. I carefully considered my goal for today. I want to tell myself "no" and follow through. Such as, no you don't need to eat a bowl of Mac and cheese as a midnight snack, an apple is a better choice. I struggle with that.
I did achieve my goal. I told myself "no fast food". I had errands to run and didn't want to stop for lunch. Instead I stopped for a drink and ate when I got home. I also went on a walk. It's been a good day. - Mrs.mouse  420.8 #306 5-21-13 8:54PM Like(1)  Reply
I love this idea of a daily goal!! Mine today is to not eat as a comfort over my disappointment about hurting my foot two weeks before the Rock & Roll Half :( - vernswifevickie  350.2 #411 5-21-13 8:59AM Like  Reply
I do that too; hope it worked out for you today, and I hope your toe is healing well. - Duchess73  294.1 #644 5-21-13 8:26PM
I did not achieve my goal today... I knew I was going to pick up Nothing Bundt Cake buntini's for a meeting tomorrow, and they always have samples out. My goal was to get in and out without taking a sample (it is a no-no what with the no grain thing)... I thought I would make it until the sweet gal behind the counter offered me a sample while I was waiting for my order and before I even thought about it, the sample was in my belly. I'll do better tomorrow. Hope you achieved yours today Mrs.mouse! - Duchess73  294.1 #644 5-21-13 8:25PM Like  Reply
I say no to a lot of things. Samples and food from the food pushers at work. I assume that unless I know who/ when the food/sample was put out - it is likely "suspect" meaning it might have germs on it from others touching it. It's extreme but if I convince myself it might be contaminated it's easier to say no. I also think about how much more I can get on my plate with a different choice. I need to get my weight down due to age and trying to lower my blood pressure so it is easier to say no out of health fears. Remind yourself that eating clean ( within your diet ) will get you to goal faster. I like the quote by Kim Benson - what you eat in private is what you wear in public. - Plumiegirl  3345.9 #10 5-21-13 9:06PM Like  Reply

I have another good quote from Kim Benson: What you eat in private and what you wear in public. Hardest part of eating changes besides hunger is being honest with myself. Ironically the planning makes it easier. - Plumiegirl  3345.9 #10 5-18-13 10:59AM Like(1)  Reply

Good for you. Set reasonable and achievable goals. Best of luck on your journey. Keep us posted. - Mrs.mouse  420.8 #306 5-10-13 10:45PM Like  Reply
Hi there! I think I said this on your post that was in the Hub the other night, but a lot of people start running with the Couch to 5K program, and then pick up the half marathon training from there. Good luck! Remember to set goals, stick to a reasonable plan, and feed your body well: if you're going to run, your body needs fuel! A lot of people try to cut their calories way low and end up burning out because they don't have the energy to keep training. Eat healthily and fuel your runs! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  436.3 #285 5-12-13 9:42AM Like  Reply

Cereal doesn't have to be bad, does it? I'd never survive on a diet if I had to cook every meal...that's why JC works for me! Stick with it GoofyMom (and feel free to let us know about the good recipes...as long as they're easy...lol) - msdizmaui  519.0 #223 5-9-13 1:06AM Like  Reply
Lol, cereal and egg whites are staples of my diet. I do love cooking, but I'm exhausted at the end of the day and, when I cook, I always end up eating too much, lol. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  436.3 #285 5-9-13 7:57AM

Happy Monday everyone. Set your goals for today and stick with it. Don't be afraid to tell yourself no. Stay on plan!
So true. I try to leave a 2 point snack for fun each day that was not on my meal plan. Otherwise it's all planned. - Plumiegirl  3345.9 #10 5-6-13 10:12PM Like  Reply
I do pretty well until I get off work, lol. I am doing better this week than I was last week, though! Things have been absolutely crazy here, but they're now calming down. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  436.3 #285 5-7-13 6:58PM Like  Reply
Same here SoS. Every night it's the same thing. Eat dinner...eat dessert (Jenny Craig of course), then scrounge to see what else I can get away with. Tonight it was strawberries, and 2 pieces of celery with peanut butter! I'm just so hungry!!! AGGHHHH! - msdizmaui  519.0 #223 5-9-13 1:01AM Like  Reply
I hate being always hungry on a diet. Which sounds obvious coming from a chubby girl. - Mrs.mouse  420.8 #306 5-9-13 3:28AM
Strawberries and celery with peanut butter isn't too bad, though. At least it wasn't chips and cookies! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  436.3 #285 5-9-13 7:59AM

I'm feeling very motivated today. I hope I can make this feeling last all week. Also, has anyone ever cooked with spaghetti squash. I picked one up and am not sure the best way to serve it.
I tried one once and it was a major failure (and it was supposedly a "can't fail" microwave recipe). I'd like to hear tips/suggestions on this one also. - msdizmaui  519.0 #223 4-29-13 10:48PM Like  Reply
It's been a while, but I cooked it once. I put it in the oven on a baking sheet. Cut length wise and seasoned with Olive Oil, salt & pepper. Then you can use a fork and it will shred. Maybe search Pinterest for some good recipes. I cant remember how long to bake it in the oven. - Fanatic4Disney  258.0 #926 4-29-13 11:39PM Like  Reply
I've never cooked one myself because I can't stand it, but this is how my mom always made spaghetti squash when I was a kid. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  436.3 #285 4-30-13 7:22AM
I put it into the steamer on the stove wait bout 7-10 minutes an then fork shred it out onto a plate. I squeeze a Meyer lemon and a paper thin bit a butter with lemon pepper and herbs sprinkled on it. Maybe a dash of Parmesan on it too. - Plumiegirl  3345.9 #10 5-6-13 10:22PM Like  Reply
The spaghetti squash turned out so well. I will be making it again. - Mrs.mouse  420.8 #306 5-7-13 2:41AM Like  Reply
What method did you use? I didn't like it so maybe I need to try a different way. Glad you liked it! - Fanatic4Disney  258.0 #926 5-7-13 10:03AM
I punctured holes in the spaghetti squash and boiled it for about 30 min. I then allowed it to cool, cut it along the equator scooped out the seeds, then used a fork to pull the strans. I put the squash into the sauce I had made and allow to cook for 30 min. I find that if its cooked more its not as crunchy and takes of a more pasta like texture. I made a light version of turkey tetrizinni with the squash. It was very good. - Mrs.mouse  420.8 #306 5-7-13 2:41PM

I can't give up good cheese. Obviously only in moderation but I love stinky Roquefort or creamy Brie every so often! Good job on the running! My goal is to get on our elliptical for at least a 1/2 hour 5 days a week. - LisaMouse7531  409.1 #318 5-1-13 7:59AM Like  Reply
Oooh...yummy cheese...good one! I love good cheese too. I have a hard time with the moderation part...lol. I admire people who can do the eliptical! I think it's so hard! - vernswifevickie  350.2 #411 5-1-13 11:52AM
Really?! That's how I feel about running. I played water polo so my knees are shot, I just can't run. - LisaMouse7531  409.1 #318 5-1-13 9:58PM
Good questions! I'm unwilling to give up coffee, although during Lent, I only drink coffee from home--nothing sugary or fancy. And my favorite workout...that's a hard one! I've been running for about 15 years, semi regularly, so I guess it's my favorite? I also love Pilates and kettlebells, though. And gymnastics! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  436.3 #285 5-1-13 8:00AM Like  Reply
So we have that in common. I love my coffee WITH half and half in it. I make it at home except for on Fridays. I get to go to Starbucks on my way to my WW meeting. Sort of a reward for going. And when we're in the parks we always get coffee at Starbucks in DCA first thing. - vernswifevickie  350.2 #411 5-1-13 11:55AM
Oh, I forgot I was going to tell you a funny kettle bell story. A while back I was doing a kettlebell work out and my cat, Agnes, got too close. I sort of bonked her in the head with the kettle bell....darned near knocked her out. It wasn't funny that day. But now it's been months but every time I put a DVD in the player she runs upstairs to hide. She's not taking any chances...lol. Poor Agnes. She doesn't run away if Vern puts a DVD in :) - vernswifevickie  350.2 #411 5-1-13 6:43PM
I refuse to give up sweets. I realize that us a whole category. My favorite exercise is when I'm walking in Disneyland. Other than that, it's not as exciting. - Mrs.mouse  420.8 #306 5-1-13 7:47PM Like  Reply
Lol...maybe you can put on your mouse ears and walk around your neighborhood and pretend you're in Disneyland! I swear, one of these days I'm going to wear my sparkle skirt and wings when I run around my neighborhood....lol - vernswifevickie  350.2 #411 5-2-13 5:01AM

Thx!
