Just finished planning our trip for May! Didn't use a book, but I downloaded the app "MyDisneyExperience". Lets you search through everything the park's have to offer, plus manages all of your reservations!
I used "The Unofficial guide to Walt Disney World" by Bob Sehlinger. It's a HUGE book with more information than you need. You can get on iTunes also. www.mousesavers.com also has some very good tips as to times, food, etc. They focus mostly on WDW and send out monthly newsletters. We got a fairly good price (slightly cheaper that Disney directly) from AAA. I also think staying "on property" there helps with the magic hours if you are doing off-season. If you have any specific questions DM or e-mail me. I'll try to answer since we went in Jan. - DLKenCA1085.1 #108 2-24-14 4:31PMLikeReply

If he thinks he can handle the drive, wheelchairs are inexpensive to rent and you can take it easy and enjoy her birthday. Knee injuries suck. The good things is DCA is wheelchair accessible so he won't have to get up much there, and DL has a great return time system for wheelchairs in lines that are too small for them. I'll probably post up the Haunted Mansion one later in the week. Probably have to do it as a 2 parter since there was a change in the storyline sort of with Constance's taking over. Can also go through the whole concept to present if people really want it since I know most the history of the Mansion since it's inception - CM_Shadowgamer2228.2 #41 2-3-14 12:42AMLike(1)Reply
Just remembered I didn't put some fun facts in to this post and decided to make it a reply instead of a new post. Anyway, there are several actual movie props inside of the attraction. The chair Jack Sparrow sits on in the treasure store at the end of the attraction was used in the dining room scenes of the Haunted Mansion movie (they also have one in Florida and one appears in one of Constance's wedding photos in Haunted Mansion). The chest that held the cursed gold can be seen in the treasure scene with the skeletal pirate sitting on top of the gold pile. It is against the wall on the far side as you enter, closest to where the Davy Jones projection is. The final prop from the movie that I'm aware of is the boat that Pintel and Ragetti use when dressed as women. It will be tied up next to the fortress wall on your right hand side as you turn into the city after the battle scene. Speaking of Pintel and Ragetti, the two laughing pirates closest to where Jack is hiding near the well are who they are modeled after. One has a glass eye, and one has a peg leg (which I guess they didn't go with in the movie). Finally, the captain at the auction was originally the first Mr. Lincoln animatronic. - CM_Shadowgamer2228.2 #41 2-26-14 2:26PMLikeReply

I'm sorry about your encounter with the CM, some CM's just are rude without a reason but in all honesty I'm a CM and I do get rude and sarcastic at times but not out of the blue. For example when I'm checking bags and they get mad because I tell them to open the rest of the zippers or to have the bag in the table or when I'm in Ipod and they start getting smart mouth with me because of a picture or annual passholder who think it's okay to yell at me because the turnstile says "Call Lead-Blocked/Replace" demanding me for an explanation or saying "See this is why pasholders need their own lines" when they are rushing us. I do drop my CM friendliness and go off on them; I'm human, I snap and I can't take such rude things when all I'm doing is my job in a nice way. I create more magic though so dont think wrong of me :) On behalf of that CM, I'm sorry about your husband getting treated that way, hope the rest of his night changed and turned around :) - vampirate282.8 #49061 1-29-14 11:35PMLikeReply

Ooh! You will have so much fun! Plan for hot, humid conditions. Train consistently. Invest in good shoes and clothing (go to a specialty running store and get fit for running shoes--spending the extra money is worth it). Know that you will have good days and bad days during your training: use the bad/meh days to empower and strengthen you. Also know that you will need to figure out your hydration and fuel, and that can only be done through trial and error during training. On the day of the race, follow runner etiquette and stay to the right if you are walking/slow jogging, and try to avoid zig zagging (this puts unnecessary stress on your joints and is dangerous for the people trying to run behind you). One thing I wish I had done is run a 10k before the DL half so that I could submit proof of time to be moved to an earlier corral. Good luck!! - Spoonful_O_Sugar492.0 #322 1-22-14 7:35PMLike(4)Reply
Ran the DL Half last year and the Tink 10k and Half this year! Just signed up for the Dumbo Dare because of how much I love it! Also, don't beat yourself up if you don't stick to your training routine 100%. For this last race, my training was all over the place & I was still able to reach my goals. Do some weights or swim instead of running day in and day out...I've found the breaks from running really helped my joints! Good luck!! - GrimGrinningAmanda422.2 #414 1-27-14 10:35AMLike(2)Reply

Pace that works for you and find something that keeps you occupied for those moments when you hit your wall. Also do some strength training in the gym and eat good. If you have any questions feel free to dm me! 😊 - CourtyAstroBlisters620.7 #234 1-14-14 8:10PMLike(1)Reply
I ran my first half last summer. If you're in generally good health, and can commit to a sensible training and nutrition program, then just do it. :) Words of wisdom: invest in good shoes and gear and don't be afraid to push yourself. You'll have bad days during your training--expect them and use them to make yourself stronger. - Spoonful_O_Sugar492.0 #322 1-14-14 8:53PMLike(1)Reply
I ran the Disneyland Half last year (my first Half ever) & had a blast! Loved running through the Parks. I'm running the 10k AND Half this weekend because I had so much fun last time! Give yourself enough time to train & it should be no problem! :) Also, I had knee surgery a few years back after suffering a torn meniscus. At 22, I can honestly say I feel like I have "old lady" knees, but with proper care I'm able to take care of it while training! Lots of ice & Epsom salt baths. Good luck! - GrimGrinningAmanda422.2 #414 1-16-14 5:32PMLikeReply
I did it two years ago when the fog was insane. Definitely fun to experience once, but I don't think id do it again. Unbelievably crowded! It's hard to complain while you're at Disneyland, but I'd much rather go somewhere else. :)
It gets VERY crowded. At rope drop guests scurry to place blankets to hold places on Main Street, near the castle. Some camp out, taking turns. Hard to say when they reach max capacity. It's like once you get IN, you stay there and don't park hop bc there is no guarantee you will be admitted back in. DCA is not AS packed, but it's still fun. Hope this helps :) - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint2808.3 #29 12-29-13 8:58PMLikeReply

Thank you all for your input. Since turning single again, and actually the entire 11 years of the relationship (so 15 years) I have done nothing on NYE. Tomorrow would be the same, not even a gathering of family or neighbors. Will any other MW be there? That are my age, 40-50 ish. Still up for a night of fun but not crazy - FairyGrandmother188.4 #1936 12-30-13 6:53PMLikeReply
I decided to babysit the mini tonight so my daughter could go out. I plan on spending the whole day at the parks tomorrow. I have not see WOC this holiday season. - FairyGrandmother188.4 #1936 12-31-13 10:04PMLikeReply

We love Fantasmic & usually set up about 2 hours in advance. We'll bring a blanket, plop it down then I'll get dinner for everyone and we will sit and eat right there! We sit front & center by the water! :)
I always sit down way early and grab the up close spots by the rail with my mini. This way she gets time to relax and also can see the show without a problem. We always do the first show because there is no way she would make it til later. In order to do this, you would have to get there a couple hours early. - warchanted88.4 #3445 11-6-13 6:02PMLike(1)Reply
I always like to sit in front of Cafe Orleans. - BombFrog535.8 #285 11-6-13 5:59PMLikeReply
if you can't make it to second showing, I suggest getting there at least two- three hours before to get a decent spot near the center of ROA. It gets pretty full around 8. - MEHlanie_Mouse1112.2 #104 11-6-13 6:58PMLikeReply
A rail spot in the outside patio of the river belle is pretty good. 2 hours ahead of time, but if you eat dinner and relax it makes it worthwhile - goofydad9091072.6 #110 11-6-13 7:02PMLikeReply
