Wow!!!!! Awesome history on the Sailing Ship Columbia! I've read bits and pieces on this but never in such detail! She's truly a beautiful ship! I've been on this attraction many times. So much to see. It's really surprising! Be sure to go below deck to see lots of details and interesting things! But do not touch the gun on the bow! The CM's are a little testy about it. I've eaten at the Bengal Barbeque. Nice place to stop for a snack! Thank you SMK! What a great Disney history post today! You're so cool!! - MyPark946.4 #94 6-4-13 7:37AMLike Reply
Did you try and touch the gun MyPark?! 😳😂 what happened? What's your favorite thing to get from Bengal? - Duchess_SMK 3528.3 #10 6-4-13 8:09AM
Several guests tried before the ship sailed! If CMs were permitted to slap hands, they'd get their hands slapped 😂. I've only had one of the skewers offered at Bengal Barbeque. It was a teriyaki I think. Very tasty. - MyPark 946.4 #94 6-4-13 8:14AM
The Columbia is ok... It sure does look nice when they hoist that Jolly Roger up durring Fantasmic... oh haha Just kidding... sort of. I do always wish I had one though. Bengal BBQ is a family favorite, for me especially, I usually have Two Safari Skewers because I hardly notice the asparagus all I see is BACON! Now I am hungry and in need of an adventure at sea...Thank you miss. - GrumpyPirateDad598.0 #187 6-4-13 7:49AMLike Reply

Hmm... That probably IS why..hehe. I will order a few skewers in your honor and give one to Pikarich..... ok maybe just half - GrumpyPirateDad 598.0 #187 6-4-13 9:19AM

I love star tours 2 and found some secrects that cannot be posted on mw but if you ride with me I can share some with you ,hahaha anyways star tours 2 has 2 openings,2 first planet scenes,3 chracter holographic sequences, and 3 final ending scenes. mix and match this makes it a total of 54 versions. What i CAN share with you is disney left the number 1401 with is the shuttle you board on the spaceport is the same one with r2 and c-3po in the main entrance room. our pre captain rex is found in the queue line but is labeled as defective and if you listen to him closely he will spark every few minutes and speak a line from the old star tours. There are two hidde mickeys in the line , one is from the luggage scanner and the second is on the video moniter hallway every now and then r2 appears and tops ,turns and pulls out two arm and turns them into a circle sideways making a hidden mickey from a few seconds. before officially relaunching disney had a contest to ap to ride star tours and even today even after entering every last contest open to ap have not won yet. they estimated about 100,000 ap previews with cm previews too.thank you - pikarich677.6 #159 6-3-13 10:31AMLike(3) Reply

Have to watch the cartoon still. I just love all those old shorts. So much fun. I LOVE the cabanas at the DL hotel! Best kept decently priced secret if you ask me. As much $ as we spend elsewhere in the parks on food and souvenirs, and for the rooms themselves, I just think this is a great deal! $110 gets you a half day rental, either 9-1 or 2-6 pm. I think the full day is $165, from 9-6. We have rented the cabana several times this past year, and never regretted it. Fridge stocked with water bottles, and they bring you a fruit bowl. Ceiling fan, as you mentioned, plus the TV. Also a safe that you set your own combination to, so you can lock up your valuables and not worry about them. (In case you want to wear your diamond necklace to the pool, but not necessarily in it! 😂). Of course, you can order drinks and food. It's nice to have a big coffee table, cushioned couch and love seat, two lounge chairs and a big basket of towels. I definitely recommend an afternoon rental of a cabana if you are staying at the DL hotel. They allow up to 6 people in them at a time, by the way. - meridafan1098.9 #75 5-29-13 11:16AMLike(3) Reply

I miss the mine train! While I love BTMRR, I have so many wonderful memories of riding the mine train with my parents. As a kid, my parents and I took road trips every year and the mine train was such a great reminder of some of the amazing sites we had seen. The cave as you enter BTMRR is a tribute to the mine train, with the glowing stalagmites, stalactite (yes, that's how it's spelled!) and springs. The whole area was incredible, with the pack mules and stagecoaches! It, along with IASW and POTC were my mom's favorites....they were entertaining but not roller-coasters! IASW has not been a favorite of mine, although I love it at Christmas. But it was a must every trip with my mom! My fondest recollections involve the later years when my dad and my daughter would nap on it while mom and I sang along with the soundtrack! I vaguely remember the animation building...I preferred rides at that age! - Gia794.1 #122 5-28-13 11:21AMLike(5) Reply

Good morning. I liked the Mine Train a lot when I was young. The Geysers smelled at lot better at Disneyland then at Yellowstone. Enjoyed the bears fishing and back scratching on a tree. Another awesome memory! A few of us who were attending UCI at the time, ditched classes (and right before finals!) to ride Space Mtn. on opening day! No lines back then so we rode it over and over again. We were given free tshirts (I still have mine, just don't know where it is) and bumper stickers commemorating opening day. No music back then, and the queue had windows where those waiting in line could see the "rockets" zooming around. When I was hired as a CM the following year we had a tour of the attraction then rode it with the lights on...which is quite scary! The tracks seem soooo close to each other! The best memories I have are riding it with my dad...seeing him with his hands in the air and laughing made it even better. - Gia794.1 #122 5-27-13 11:38AMLike(12) Reply

I love these early animations. I noticed the animators worked on synchronizing the music and sounds with the animation. This was such a new medium at the time and animators were often in unknown territories of drawing, art, and music. It's so cool to see how this developed into what became Disney animation. Thank you SMK for taking us back to another great day in Disney history!! - MyPark946.4 #94 5-8-13 7:09AMLike Reply
From what i read, it marks a turning point in animation style. Beforehand, characters would start & stop almost mechanically. Norm Ferguson (one of the animators) developed a style where the characters never completely stopped, but when one part would stop another part would start moving, making the whole movement much more fluid. Disney liked the effect so much he made all the other animators study Ferguson's style. - Duchess_SMK 3528.3 #10 5-8-13 7:53AM
