Anyone have any tips or tricks for Disneyland in a wheelchair? I've been to the park hundreds of times, but Monday's visit will most likely require a wheelchair for at least part of the day. I can transfer, and walk a bit, so I'm not plan  More...
Ok. We have done DL/DCA with a wheelchair and a mobility scooter. It's easy once you get the hang of it. So, your wheelchair or scooter basically become a fast pass. There are either kiosk, or at the attraction with a CM. The CM gives you a return time that matches the posted wait time. You can only have one return time at a time on the disability side of the house. You can use your park ticket to get regular FP. if the ride is handicap accessible (all of DCA), then you just wait inline like everybody else. My hubs can't wait inline for multiple reasons, so we have the DAS pass. It the same rules, but he doesn't have to stay inline. They will stop the attraction for you to get in and out of the seating. POTC access is where people get off. If you are renting a mobility scooter or wheelchair, then I suggest off site rental, so you can take it to your hotel. The system really works well. Biggest thing is people still glare at you because they think you are cutting lines. Also, watch out for people. We had a mom just turn left in front of hubs, no time to stop or get out of the way, so she basically threw her son under the wheels. We had another mom, turn to run ahead with her daughters. Not realizing we were there and basically ran into him. Then complain "people are walking here!"  Always take your key! Hubs scooter is huge, 350lbs , and @ 5ft long- I'm not sure how the miss us??? The CM know how to find the unlocking button. Roger Rabbit ride, the CM will move your device to the stroller parking area. Not sure why because it's being used for mobility. It's a long walk when you can't walk. Not sure if this is what you wanted to know. If you have specific questions, just ask.  - Sugarbuzz   335.8 #828 6-5-15 6:28PM Like(3)  Reply

Most of the rides accommodate wheel chairs. If in doubt ask CM of that ride. They are very nice  When going shopping or looking around park.  Don't forget your key it goes around your wrist. No one bothers the chair. My hubby and I share. My knees give out and his neuropathy kicks in. You're probly lots younger than us. We always say getting old isn't for the faint of heart. lol  PS Watch out for the strollers   Serious, wheel chairs are part of the park.  - suzieq65   191.9 #2264 6-5-15 5:08PM Like(1)  Reply
I don't know about the younger part :) I have a degenerative neurological disorder that is causing muscle atrophy, so while I can function pretty well for a while, the endurance has become an issue. I'm pretty sure I'll just go for the manual chair this trip.  - gcookphotos  5.5 #19065 6-5-15 5:47PM
Call deckerts medical supply or Google electronic wheelchair rentals off site. They will deliver your electronic chair to the park and pick it up when you are done for a fraction what Disney charges.  - Plumiegirl  10907.9 #11 6-5-15 6:32PM
You can also stop by Ciry Hall or Chamber of Commerce if yOu have questions. They have a little brochure and people that can answer any questions - DLKenCA   3640.5 #51 6-5-15 6:45PM Like(1)  Reply
Our return time has always been pretty fast and CM put you in a line that doesn't require getting in and out of say POTC or Toy Story. Thunder Mtn. The rapids ride holds the "tire" still for you. Other people llove to go on with you. It's easier.    I've thought about rentals but wasn't sure of return time for chair. Think I'll look into it.  You have to do what's comfortable for you - it's essential to have FUN. That's what DL is all about.  - suzieq65  191.9 #2264 6-6-15 9:08AM
I used Deckert Surgical Co. on my last trip in April. The equipment worked out great and they delivered and picked up at my hotel for my two day stay at the parks. Not sure about delivery to the parks if you aren't staying at a hotel, but give them a call... They cut the rate for the second day because we left by 3pm, so the $40 dollars a day rate was $60 plus $5  for a holder on the back of my scooter for my crutches; $65 total. So worth it! I had used another company previously (a Scooter 4  U) but the crutch holder was very awkward. Two crutches in a very narrow tube and getting them in and out to ride rides or use the bathroom was so inconvenient and frustrating! I checked their rates and they are just as expensive as Deckert nowbecause of the summer season. I got the winter rate last year because I booked in Jan for a medical conference at the Disneyland Hotel in late June and early July! Deckert's is recommended by the Disney Travel Co. when you book a hotel at the resort. Hope this helps!  - Catski23   34.4 #6097 6-6-15 9:41AM Like  Reply
