Got my box yesterday.  I think I was one of the last since I'm up here in the NW.  I'm happy with it!  I was hoping for maybe a partners statue instead of the castle but it's still a real cool box.  I know pictures are already on here but if anyone wanted to see something specific from the box, close up picture or whatever, let me know and I'll post them.  I'm hoping they do another one this summer or fall.   - Danierob   86.1 #3915 5-19-16 11:15PM Like  Reply

All the parks except DL  are not hitting projected earnings and ESPN was down 20% , that's why there are job cuts. Lots of people cutting cable, they need to figure out how to cash in on lots of people watching everything online.  - secretagentangel   6920.7 #17 5-10-16 10:43PM Like(1)  Reply
Very true.  When you dig into the numbers with ESPN, it's crazy.  They pay 3-5 times more for NFL games than the next person.  Horrible contracts signed there.  Disney has slashed away at ESPN for the last 6 months and I don't think it's over yet.   - Danierob  86.1 #3915 5-10-16 11:44PM
And they do not pay their sportscasters as much as others, I know a couple left for other places.  So they're not paying most people large salaries.  - secretagentangel  6920.7 #17 5-10-16 11:49PM

#dizneedude, Totally agree with you.  I did a little digging around tonight and read some really interesting articles on what's going on.  I think there is a lot of "loss" in many different sectors.  Obviously they are doing well in the Motion Picture business right now but it seems everything else is down.  And a bunch of little to moderate "downs" can erase any and all profits.  I read one article that quoted someone stating that their will still be Disney video games produced but it won't be by a "Disney" company, instead someone who pays a licensing fee. An example of this is what they did with Star Wars Battlefront.  They let EA make the game and in return profits in Disney Interactive went from a loss of $300 million to a profit of $180 million, huge turn around to say the least in just three years.   My guess is that at the end of the day, they did not see the "value" in having all of that content produced in-house, mainly the hardware end of that.  Instead, let someone else bare the burden of all of those costs and allow them to buy the rights from you.  I'll throw my .2 in as well and venture to guess that with some of the shake up's in the executive chain, including the COO Staggs stepping down is a sign of more of the same in the future.  To me it's a sign that they will invest in what is going to yield them the greatest in return, and quickly move to make cuts in the areas that don't measure up.  With reduced park hours, restaurants closed, and continued cost cutting within other vertical markets, it's safe to assume that they are gearing up to invest heavily in what brings home the bacon, Movies and Parks.   - Danierob   86.1 #3915 5-10-16 11:34PM Like  Reply
I think they were over optimistic on projections also. As to the COO stepping  down, the financial times ( I think, now I can't remember magazine)had a great satirical article on him leaving and who the new person to replace Iger would be. I told dizneedude but I'll have to find it again.  - secretagentangel  6920.7 #17 5-10-16 11:46PM
Yup... Fun fact I used to call ESPN Extremely Slow Paying Network 30 day invoices were generally paid in 90 - dizneedude   1655.8 #107 5-10-16 11:56PM
the article I read seemed like infinity would continue,  but by another company.  it said that the company that did the epic mickey (?) games would close.  so much upheaval.  but with the huge crowds all thru the DL 60th, and the huge hit marvel, sw and disney movies,  all us fans are doing our part.  i could not care less what the stock price is.   - MsTikiMermadam   1331.7 #139 5-11-16 6:24AM Like  Reply

Thanks for the response!  You got it, I'll post tons of pics.  Hopefully my service is better on a tiny island in the middle of the pacific ocean than it is within the parks, :)   - Danierob  86.1 #3915 4-23-15 10:23AM
Oh my goodness, you will LOVE staying at the Aulani! The resort is absolutely beautiful, and the nearby beaches are perfect for lounging around, snorkeling, or even paddle boarding. My number one suggestion to you would be to make sure you have a rental car during your stay on the island. As beautiful and relaxing as the Aulani is, there is so much more to Hawaii that you need to experience. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions at all, as I'm more than happy to help. I only live about 10-15 minutes away from the Aulani, and most of my weekends are spent at the beach over there, so I just might pop in to say hi and have a shave ice while you are visiting. - DarthTinkerbell   918.2 #208 4-23-15 11:41AM Like(3)  Reply

Thanks @Winnie111286....Thats what we are hoping for, a relaxing vacation.  I can't wait to check out the slides and beach.  The swimming with the fish looks really cool too.  How are the rooms, not that we will be in there too much but I'm curious what your impression was of them.   - Danierob   86.1 #3915 4-24-15 9:22AM Like  Reply

I'm looking at buying an AP pass for myself and using park hoppers for rest of the family for our upcomming December trip. Does anyone else on here do that to get the discounts on the hotels and park food and merch?
If you are staying at a Resort Hotel you enjoy Extra Magic Hour. If you are staying at a Good Neighbor hotel. .. the AP is not entitled to Magic Morning.  I hope that makes sense.  - MickeyLumboCM   1358.8 #138 2-16-14 1:08PM Like(1)  Reply
So we are looking at staying at either Paridise Pier or Disneyland Hotel,  5 nights. I believe I would get 15% off hotel rates. I don't want to make it too complicated.  - Danierob  86.1 #3915 2-16-14 9:53PM
Both hotels are great options. When you make the reservation you should add your AP and then you get the rate discount. You can add the tickets for the others on the reservation.  You pick them up at check in. - MickeyLumboCM  1358.8 #138 2-17-14 12:14AM
I am doing that this year for the first time. We will be making 2 visits in a calendar year which never happens. I figured out the cost for a 3and a 4 day hopper ticket and with the savings on food and Mdse over 7 days, it will be worth it. Plus the added benefit, I will be able to buy pins exclusive to AP holders which I am stoked about... - CVDisneyland   460.3 #499 2-16-14 10:03PM Like(1)  Reply
That is a wonderful idea!  We are Vacation Club Members and always stay at one of the resort hotels, so we get early entry.  We also have access to discounted Military Tickets.  We have never thought of only buying one passport for the discounts.  I did the math and for us it will be a huge savings since we go at least twice a year! - luvthemouse   279.1 #1112 2-17-14 7:58AM Like  Reply

I've got a question for all you regulars. We are planning our second trip to Disneyland and looking at the week of Nov 11th. We were there in Oct last year and loved the Halloween theme. Our thought this year was going during the Holiday   More...
Yes! Best time to go in nov is after thanksgiving. However, living far away, we usually go at times when the park is "busy" anyway so we don't really know any different. My family went the day of thanksgiving and a few days after and it really wasn't as horrible as I thought it was going to be. The lines were typically about a little over an hour wait. Being on a tighter budget, the hotel we usually stay in is the Marriott Fairfield Inn. It is reasonably priced and is only .02 miles away. It took maybe 5 min to walk to the park. Only down fall is they don't have continental breakfast. Is you can afford a DL hotel, do it!!! I've heard nothing but good things about them! - BellesLibrary   418.5 #556 5-8-13 1:12PM Like(1)  Reply
The first week of December may also be a good time. All of the decorations will be up, as well as all shows, parades and fireworks up and running, as well as extended operating hours, as well as lighter crowds compared to other parts of the holiday season (although still busy). As far as hotels, it totally depends on your wants/needs. There are several good neighbor (and non good neighbor) that are a shorter walk to the main gates than that any of the Disney properties and at a significant savings too. We have stayed at several in the area and it's hard to match the convenience, especially when you are spending all of your time at the parks. - NickDoubleyew   1094.1 #176 5-8-13 1:16PM Like(1)  Reply
