✨🏃✨I'm signed up for the DL Half! Yay! I've wanted to do this for 4 years now, and finally we can make it work this year. Question for those of you who have done this before...if you could experience your first half marathon aga More...
Woohoo!! I'm so excited for you SOS! The DL Half last year was my first ever half marathon. I did other 5K and 10K races beforehand, but I wanted Disney to be my first half. The 5K and 10K races were my "practice" races and I learned a lot from them so I definitely recommend doing some of those (for example- learning what to eat or what not to eat, which shoes work and which don't, etc.). In my training, the most I ran was about 12 miles so I knew that I could handle the half. I will say that the runDisney races spoiled me though. Now I'm very dissatisfied with the races here in Vegas. Besides the DL Half, I also ran the Wine & Dine Half in WDW and the Tinker Bell Half a few days ago. If you have anymore questions, just let me know! I'm doing the Dumbo Challenge so maybe we can have a Chub 33 meet up! If you have fb, check out the #Team runDisney group. They have lots of tips for runDisney races. - PirateQueenBriezy291.4 #660 1-23-13 11:06AMLike Reply
Thanks! This confirmed what I was thinking exactly! I know I should do a few practices to work out the kinks, but wasn't sure if I should try a half or not. I definitely plan on being conditioned to handle the 13 miles! - Spoonful_O_Sugar 435.8 #283 1-23-13 3:14PM

I know--I need to go to bed earlier, but I can't sleep! I'm a night person by nature, so this is a bit hard on me, but I'm determined to figure it out! I used to work at a gym and sometimes I'd have the opening shift (had to be there by about 4:30 to open at 4:45). I always wondered how people could possibly be so cheerful and active at that time, lol! It was hard enough to fake a smile and check people in! - Spoonful_O_Sugar 435.8 #283 6-27-12 6:24PM

My husband switches shifts often and unless he gets on the new schedule immediately then he is miserable. Sometimes he takes a sleeping pill to help him get to sleep earlier. After a few days of that routine, his body usually adjusts. I don't like taking pills and I dont drink coffee so as soon as I wake up I turn on all the lights and I start the shower off with cooler water than usual. Music helps too. Good luck! - PirateQueenBriezy291.4 #660 6-27-12 9:57PMLike Reply
I'm so impressed SOS! I wish that I were a morning person...but I'm just not! This week I set my alarm for 1/2 hour early to use my eliptical before I showered. Didn't happen...(and probably never will!) - msdizmaui518.6 #224 7-1-12 8:29PMLike Reply
Lol, I honestly couldn't do it without my husband's encouragement. I've never really liked sleeping in late, but I'm not a morning person either. The weight loss is encouraging (I've been stalled lately). Went shopping today--things fit well and I felt good for the first time in a few years, really. So I came home and tried on my "skinny jeans," (bought them on my honeymoon). They've been a bit tight for the last two years, but now they fit again! So that's motivation to keep getting up early and staying motivated. - Spoonful_O_Sugar 435.8 #283 7-1-12 8:41PM
How are things goin MDM?.. Besides elliptical workout!..lil.. Gettin up early before work is tough! - Twinklelashes 144.3 #2374 7-4-12 9:58PM
It sounds like your adjusting pretty well on your own. If you ever have trouble getting to sleep, I find taking a melatonin pill very helpful. It's not like a sleeping pill because your body produces melatonin naturally anyway. Adding a little more makes me a little more tired as long as I turn off the lights and get in bed. It doesn't really work if I stay active. Costco sells a huge package of melatonin but I'm sure other stores have smaller ones as well. - TamiPoppins39.7 #3993 7-10-12 9:23AMLike Reply
Thank you--I have good days and not-do-great ones (felt awful this morning, and my jog went really slowly today). I thought about melatonin, but I wasn't really sure. It's relatively gentle on your body, right? I don't like sleeping pills or Benadryl or any of those because I just hate the feeling of having meds in me (I feel all dehydrated and icky). Maybe I'll buy some and try it every so often. Thank you for the feedback! - Spoonful_O_Sugar 435.8 #283 7-10-12 10:07AM

OMG see so much fun.! It was a beautiful chilly starry night and my boyfriend and I were walking through my most favorite place on earth Disneyland. We were sitting together and had outstanding front row seats to watch the fire works. As always the fire works were magical....but then I noticed that the end of the show was different... Tinker bell flew down to the ground from onto of the matterhorn and walked up to Beau and I and escorted us to the front of the castle, then some man got on the loud speaker and said ladies and gentleman I now present you with our main act of the evening Mr. Beau! Then it started to snow and he got down on his knee and birds flew into the sky and the stars glittered. Then he said how super cool I was, and I started to cry because I am a sap and then BAM! We were engaged, we got into Cinderella's horse drawn carriage and then rode to the main entrance. Then we bought a vinylmation. and we lived happily ever after:) - BooEve123800.3 #115 11-28-11 3:40PMLike(6) Reply

Yay SoS! There's a hill in the park I walk at everyday. When I was at my heaviest earlier this year, I'd have to stop and rest half way up. I could tell when my weight loss was starting to "count" when I could walk up without getting winded. I still use that hill as a measurement (although now it's my dog that doesn't want to run!). And you're right...those accomplishments matter, and mean more in the long run than a pound here and there. - msdizmaui518.6 #224 10-10-11 1:24AMLike Reply
@twinkle: if I owned a boutique, I would def have soft lighting and clothes sized smaller than they actually are (I.e.: a "6" would be labelled "4")! @MDM: the weight loss does make a difference, doesn't it? I don't do anything special, but I do love fruit and also celery sticks with fresh almond butter. I love the kabobs at Paradise Pier. I think it's one of the places that make it easier to eat healthy in the parks. You choose you sauce and have them serve it on the side so you have control. - vernswifevickie318.2 #525 9-11-11 3:53PMLike Reply
I ate at both places this year. From a diet point of view, Bengal is easier - i.e you can get kabobs w/no sauce and plain, grilled veggies and it's all delicious. At Paradise Grill I had the chicken with tzatziki and asked them for no flatbread or rice and extra veggies and was told "no substitutions"! It was really good (and I was a good girl and only ate a few bites of rice and no flatbread). If I had to choose, I'd have to go with Bengal for the kabob and have the salad at Paradise Grill. HTH! - msdizmaui518.6 #224 9-12-11 12:58AMLike Reply
I don't really follow any specific plan--I just try to keep it balanced! Thanks, Vickie and MDM. This was helpful! I think it's worth trying out. I like that you can get the sauce on the side. And Vickie, I agree that the Bengal's portions are small, but I do like that everything is a la carte, instead of a whole pre-made plate, and one kabob is relatively cheap (at least for DL food!). - Spoonful_O_Sugar435.8 #283 9-12-11 6:55AMLike Reply
One last comment - it may have just been the ones I got, but the kabob at Bengal was more solid, white meat chix. I admit - I'm a picky eater - but there was a lot at the Grill that I left on the plate. Vickie - I agree, but also like the ala carte factor - especially when I just want meat & veggies! - msdizmaui518.6 #224 9-13-11 7:14PMLike Reply

So, my bus driver to the Toy Story lot told me that people walk 5 miles for every 8 hours they are at DL! Does anyone wear a pedometer while they are there? How accurate is this information?
Well not sure about that.. I would think it depends on what you do that day. I have brought my ped. W/ me and my "slow" days ( blister , Tom) I do at least 5 miles. My best day I did 12. I also park hop. - Twinklelashes144.3 #2374 6-5-11 10:45AMLike Reply
Wow--twelve! That's almost a half-marathon :) I agree: it definitely depends on how active you are while you're there. I guess it also depends on where you stay. I wear a Fitbit (like a pedometer but you can also input your calories, sleep, etc). and it shows I log about 7+ miles in a day at Disneyland. - MainStreetMom112.5 #2854 6-7-11 6:24PMLike Reply
A tip: listening to MW radio while you do yoga or pilates makes your workout feel like it's over faster, lol! Listened to WOC and Fantasmic while I did a pilates DVD today :)
Is this strictly an iPhone thing? And how high of a rank do you need to be able to get it (I was too embarassed to ask in The Hub). I go on MW on my touch iPod and MacBook (gotta wait until next month to get an iPhone). - msdizmaui518.6 #224 5-24-11 12:20AMLike Reply
Hmmm. I'm not sure if it's only for iPhones! I know the MW radio is not on the web version. If you can access it, you would see it on the dashboard. You need a 50 for WOC and I'm not sure about Fantasmic. There are tons of Other tunes, though, - Spoonful_O_Sugar435.8 #283 5-24-11 11:10AMLike Reply
In your opinion, what is the most underrated or over-looked attraction in the parks? To me, it's the castle walk-through.
I think I have to agree with you sos. We always forget about it but enjoy it everytime we walk through. The sitting area by the exit is a good escape from the heat. U just can sit and watch the walk through on tv in a nice cool room. - AdventurelandFam168.0 #2031 5-23-11 9:24AMLike Reply

I cant wait for the last movie. My son got me hooked when he was in elementary school. The series was his favorite to read! They are addicting! I read the last book in a week. I couldn't put it down. Now I'm reading the first book to my lil guy. - vegasbrat403.8 #323 5-21-11 10:56AMLike Reply

In 2009, I earned my graduate degree, got married, and started my career. It was a year of exciting changes personally and professionally, and I quickly became preoccupied with my new home and work duties. By the end of 2010, I realized that I was out of shape physically and mentally, and I was completely exhausted. I exercised sporadically, but I could barely run a mile in January. For someone who used to log 20-30 miles a week, I felt very discouraged. This year, I really worked on making time for myself, and I have now found a balance between work (a lot of my work comes home with me, unfortunately) and home and have found the time to exercise regularly like I used to. For me, this balance is a huge achievement. - Spoonful_O_Sugar435.8 #283 5-20-11 5:15PMLike Reply
I wish I could post a diet "achievement", but I always seem to gain back what I lose. For the past 3 years I've lost weight (for my trip to DL in the summer) and then gain it all back! I get so mad at myself, but I've also been laid off from 2 jobs in between so there's other extenuating circumstances (I eat better when I'm working!). Anyway, this is the first time that I've lost some weight by just eating good (as opposed to eating only Jenny Craig food) and although my weight loss is stalled, I'm still feeling good that I'm learning to eat right! Hopefully the weight will all come off (before August!) and it'll stay off this time! - msdizmaui518.6 #224 5-21-11 11:27PMLike Reply

Very tiring!!! I bought wii active 2 and I was so exhausted halfway through! Otter than that, I did some kickboxing and weekly dodgeball with my gym buddies. I certainly feel more fit than before :). And thank you! - Madi204.0 #1571 11-12-11 4:46PMLike Reply
FYI: I just found Weight Watchers Smart One dinners on sale at my local Target for only $1.89! that is a very good price--I think they're on sale because they're marked with the old Points.
Let's share! Ok, I'm definitely not a dieter--I enjoy my favorite foods in moderation and eat fairly healthy most of the time. However, it's hard to eat "in moderation" at DL. It's so extreme--there's junk food everywhere and the porti More...
this is my "plan", but it never really works out for me, but hopefully it does for you! So before i start in any meal, I always always ask for it to go! with the to go boxes, i know that i can eat some for now and some for later. It's that whole mentality thing. Plaza inn has to go boxes (small and large) and bags. Just ask for a to go box and BAM there you go. you dont even have to buy from there. For snacks during the day, i bring snacks from home, banana, granola bar, etc. If you feel like you dont want to lug all this stuff, try the huge fruit platter at Riverbelle Terrace or go grab a bite at any fruit cart. The treat that satisfies me the most, without that "im going to explode" feeling is a smoothie from Shmoozies! My fav resturaunt is Rancho del zocalo, and plaza inn since it can easily be shared! (ps. If you dont want a to go thing, but don't want to pig out, SHARE!) Hope i helped! also don't be afraid to grab a mocha double scoop sundae from time to time! :) - Madi204.0 #1571 5-13-11 6:14PMLike Reply
For the last 5 or so years, by the time I get to DL I'd have been on a diet for so long that it's pretty easy to continue on it. My problem is that the first time I "blow" it, I'm gone but I know this, so I usually try not to blow it until the last day (so I can't do that much damage!). This year I'm already stressing about the new Fried Tomato sandwich - isn't that ridiculous? I want to have it but know that it's probably a zillion calories! - msdizmaui518.6 #224 5-14-11 12:18AMLike Reply
Twinkleashes, the kids meal is a good idea! I never think to do that. Thanks! For breakfast, my husband and I usually share a low-cal or all-fruit Jamba Juice and steel-cut oatmeal. Subway is a great idea, too, because a $5 footlong could really give you two meals of you have an ice chest! - Spoonful_O_Sugar435.8 #283 5-15-11 7:07PMLike Reply
Hi, Chub33ers! I know that I probably focus too much on what I want to change about my body. Today, I want to know what you already love and appreciate about your body. Let's celebrate!
I love my legs. I grew up as a gymnast, and I found out at a very young age that your legs are incredibly powerful. My legs have taken me through the streets of London, Paris, and Melbourne; they've taken me through DL countless times; and they've hiked up mountains! I've been running for 12 years, so they've probably also run thousands of
miles. They are toned, strong, and they never let me down, even when they're very tired. Thanks, legs! - Spoonful_O_Sugar435.8 #283 5-8-11 12:28PMLike Reply
I really like my legs also! Ever since i started working out, my legs and calves are much more tone! Also, my butt looks more shapely (TMI, i know) ever since i started working out! Love itt! now i need to work on my tummy area! :) - Madi204.0 #1571 5-8-11 2:34PMLike Reply
I run/walk with my dog every day for around 40 minutes, but I don't think that it has must exercise value since my body is so used to it (a female pro golfer once told me that - she said her trainer told her that walking an 18-hole course did nothing since she did it every day). Since I don't like to exercise, I figured that just concentraing on one, good "leg/butt" exercise might work, but I guess I should try to mix it up. - msdizmaui518.6 #224 5-10-11 5:17PMLike Reply

I know what you mean - there's been some weird threads going on. I've been kind of depressed lately - hard to stay on the diet when you're depressed - and I hate seeing pics of ice cream and nachos in The Hub! walking instead of elevators, try brisk walking to, not just lounging around. Also try jumping squats, they are a tiring excercise that you can do anytime. you can also maybe do squats when your about to sit maybe a couple reps before actually sitting. Also do the "chair" excercise. back against the wall and acting like your sitting on a chair but your just supporting yourself - Madi204.0 #1571 3-29-11 7:16PMLike Reply
