Weekdays in October are pretty much short, very short wait times. On weekends is another story. It starts in September do even end of September is good. Yeah, Oct used to be really slow, but weekends seem to be busier in recent years--they're really pushing Halloween, which is fun! Sept is probably less crowded, if that's what you mean by "best," but either time will be very fun. lol too funny...very cute picture. My favorite was just a few years ago, probably 2005. Anyway we surprised our kids with staying at The Grand. While we were at the park my husband pretended that he needed to go back to our car so that he could get us all checked in. Then when he got back I said I wanted to take a tour of the hotel and we walked around and just so happened to pick the floor we needed ;) and then my husband pretended to try an open a door with his AP card (which was really our key) when it opened the boys were jazzed to look inside a room but my daughter was scared because she thought we'd get in trouble lol when we told them it was our room they were so excited...we had such a wonderful trip. We live 4 hours away and have an AP. We usually Stay at the La Quinta or Super 8 (on Katella) and its anywhere from $50-$85 depending on the time of year and the hotel size. This past weekend, we went to Subway and saved money within the park on Lunch. for 2 people for 2 days (lunch only) we spent less then $20. Also, take your own beverages and/or snacks. You will save tons of money that way too. Plaza Inn chicken dinner, also big enough to split (13.95) minus w/e the discount is. Hope this helps! In the morning when DCA opens you head towards Grizzly River Run where they have Fast Pass machines set up for WOC and there is different colored sections that you can get(it says what section on the Fast Pass) and it also says what time to show up to the viewing area. You wanna get fast passes to get guaranteed seating which I would suggest if it's your first time. If your willing to spend money I would get the dinner along with the ticket because they sit in a better section.
