South Pasadena! Little town feel, cute farmers market, good schools, minutes from downtown for work and a hop to Pasadena for shopping/restaurants. Also great location for eating some of the best Asian food in the state (Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel etc). There is now a gold line stop so you can take public transport all the wu to Hollywood. I'm biased because I grew up there. It's the kind of town that Hollywood uses for filming movies that place back east or in the 1950's. It's probably a bit expensive. - Polkadobo

Thanks for the tip, I will check that area on the MLS. As for the "kind of expensive" thing, I think the only way we can avoid that is if we leave CA and my wife is not a fan of that so.....
