I love these early animations. I noticed the animators worked on synchronizing the music and sounds with the animation. This was such a new medium at the time and animators were often in unknown territories of drawing, art, and music. It's so cool to see how this developed into what became Disney animation. Thank you SMK for taking us back to another great day in Disney history!! - MyPark944.4 #91 5-8-13 7:09AMLike Reply
From what i read, it marks a turning point in animation style. Beforehand, characters would start & stop almost mechanically. Norm Ferguson (one of the animators) developed a style where the characters never completely stopped, but when one part would stop another part would start moving, making the whole movement much more fluid. Disney liked the effect so much he made all the other animators study Ferguson's style. - Duchess_SMK 3291.4 #11 5-8-13 7:53AM

Did you know that the actual Tower is one of the tallest buildings in Anaheim? Also, because of its height, it would have required a light on top for the pilots flying over if the height went over 200 feet. So, Disney made it 199 feet tall, thus not requiring a red light and to keep the tower in "show". - BaseballMickey_CM2860.9 #16 5-5-13 9:21AMLike(2) Reply

Great info. One of my good friends who is an engineer on the DLRR says doing this costs Disney more money than it saves. It costs more to collect the cooking oil, sent it offsite to be refined and then ship it back than it would be to dispose of the cooking oil and buy diesel fuel. - ckholliday197.2 #1665 4-16-13 9:25PMLike Reply

I saw this on another site earlier and was hoping you'd cover it! Julie Andrews has been one of my favorites since I first saw "Mary Poppins" and "Sound of Music" way back in 1964! My aunt took me to see SOM and that's when I decided I wanted to do musical theatre. I had both the SOM and MP albums and with my friends would recreate the shows in my backyard...I was whatever role Julie played, of course! I also had every Broadway show album she ever did. She's led an amazing life...fans should check out her autobiography. And of course, I've seen Jingles...and managed to ride her several times. - Gia785.6 #121 4-8-13 6:15PMLike(4) Reply

Thank you for sharing. I was about 10' away from her in this picture. I just happened to be at the park that morning and inquired about all of the video cameras. They told us about the dedication so we grabbed a great spot and watched the event from a few feet away from her and legendary Imagineer Marty Sklar. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of it that are worth a dang. - MightyWhitey648.3 #165 4-8-13 10:39AMLike(1) Reply

Very interesting. I never knew that that is what it was. Winemaking is definitely a big part of California but it almost seems as though it were out of place- like something they did to sort of fill in the space. I never did go in there but I do appreciate what it is now. It is fun to feel like an insider and see what is next for these wonderful Parks. They do still make wine there I believe...someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I know DCA used to be in a partnership with Mondavi and they only sold and served THIER wine. I personalty don't like how relaxed Disney has become with the grooming of its Cast and that goes along with the costuming as well. Back in the 90s when I was there they use to send people home for their hair not being neat or side burns being to long, to much makeup, wrong color socks, the list goes on and on. I obviously have nothing against facial hair as I have it myself but think that they need to do a better job and making sure its cast is presentable on stage - Dave 8652.6 #2 3-28-13 1:03PMLike(15) Reply
I remember as a castmember between 1987 to 1990, if you arrived "scruffy" before going on-stage, there were razors and shaving cream for sell in vending machines right next to cast-cutters (castmember barber shop). - martini8668-cm38.2 #4058 3-28-13 6:53AMLike(2) Reply
