Funny this is posted...my 5th grader just left to spend the night rigging and stuff on a historical ship at SF's Hyde Street Pier 27. They sleep about 2 hrs and have to stand night watch shifts etc. The crew is strict and will yell if they get out of line. The "setting" is as if the 1906 earthquake had recently hit and the men are off fighting fires and rebuilding...so the youth are traveling up the coast to get lumber to rebuild SF. Those are Brown or Black bears. The last Grizzly Bear in California was in the 1920s. Settlers, miners, and ranchers ran them into extinction. - PrincessLeia 263.4 #886 8-12-12 6:12PM
It *is* true. We still have bears in California, but not grizzly bears. The last one was killed in 1922. (Thank you, 3rd grade teaching experience and our field trips to Santa Rosa Plateau.) The grizzly on our flag represents our strength, and the star and the words "California Republic" are nods to Texas, another republic. - susieQzee 480.7 #247 8-12-12 6:13PM

"We are just getting started." I've found this Disney quote online in context but never with a citation. Any MWrs know where/when Uncle Walt said this? Thank you!
“I just want to leave you with this thought, that it's just been sort of a dress rehearsal, and we're just getting started. So if any of you start resting on your laurels, I mean just forget it, because...we are just getting started.” ― Walt Disney -this is the quote I believe is from the time in which Walt was working Disneyland, however Dave Smith, Disney archivist, wrote a book entitled The Quotable Walt Disney...I don't own the book but I know it has the quote in the book and probably has more information. BTW - fun fact Walt Disney's quote "If you dream it you can do it" has no actual proof that he said it...Looks like i need to invest in these books too! - Mouseketeer.for.Short335.3 #451 7-27-12 6:15AMLike Reply

I'm an OC native. I think we went about once a year from around ages 3-12. After that, probably twice a year from 12-16. I got my first AP when I was 16 and have pretty much had one ever since. Even as a teen and young adult, I came with my parents often as they also had AP's. I love that you are trying to help this kid, and I'm sure with cms on it, he will be taken care of in no time. However, since there is no way to know for sure exactly who all us on this app, it's probably not a good idea to publicize when a child is lost. This happened to a friends kid at a retail store, and somebody who was not the parent heard the announcement and tried to claim the child. It was a huge mess. Not trying to undermine the nice thing you did in posting this, but you can't be too careful when it comes to kids. - LittleAprilShowers471.6 #256 4-27-12 12:55PMLike(9) Reply

I used to get lost at stores a lot as a little one. I'd be about 5 or 6 and I'd say to my mom (as she was browsing whatever items) "Now stay here! I'm going to go run and look at the toys! Stay here so I can find you. I'll only be a second!" and I'd run and literally scope the aisles for about a minute (just to get my toy fix). I'd run back and she'd have moved (of course) then she'd inevitably end up having the store page me to the check out stands. Then she'd be angry at ME for getting "lost" and "wandering off" 😉😂 - Aquata292.2 #659 4-27-12 2:48PMLike Reply
